I did a little horse trading for another 1899B in .303 today. This one dates to 1906. It is almost as good as my first one but I believe the front sight is wrong. Here are a couple of pictures for now. I may order a Lightfoot mount for this one.

Crud.. Photobucket has massively screwed up their web site. Can't even go there to view a full sized, pic, Chrome just locks up on the ads. Nice looking 1899, tho the extra metal showing above the lever might indicate a stock refinish at some point. Love the octagons and half-octagons, just classy guns!

I will take the wood off this afternoon to see if it matches. It doesn't have a silver blade front sight like my other one.

There were special order sights available for about $1. Just because it's not the rocky mountain doesn't mean it's not right. Look for brand names or numbers on the front and rear sights.

That front sight was used from late '50s to the end of production.
So, it's a Savage 99 sight but not the right era at all. A #34 is about .445" overall height.

Thanks for the info Lightfoot. I'm thinking I may scope this one before deer season. So I will be getting in contact with you here pretty soon. I wonder what scope would look halfway right sitting on a 1899B?

Malcolm comes to mind, as well as Stevens. Possibly a couple of very early German scopes and the Winchester A5 (but that one would've been around late during the 1899B run).

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/656434378I'd go with this one. In see through mounts of course....
