Ad in Classifieds:

I want to trade a Contender 7-30 waters 23" blue barrel for 21" 7-30 waters blue barrel even swap. I want a lighter carbine wink

My barrel has 125 rounds through it and is in great shape

Just curious about how much weight that will save. About 4 to 4.5 ounces I think.

If you can't find a trade, I suppose one could always cut a couple of inches off...

I think it would be closer to a pound

Dunno what you barrel contour is but if #3 you're looking at about 7 ounces of weight with 2" of barrel length.

I am..........disturbed.

Your dough and your rifle, of course, but I'd suggest something else to obsess about. Can't see how a couple inches of barrel will do much one way or the other. If your present one is a good shooter and balances well. I'd call it good.

Nice cartridge. What kind of brass do you use?

Just as an FYI.

All based on a .284 diameter hole

1.525" Diameter barrel would yield 1 pound (16 ounces) per two inches

1.000" Diameter barrel would yield 6.5 ounces per two inches

.750" Diameter barrel would yield 3.431 ounces per two inches.

I don't know how much it will weight but I know it will weigh a lot less and IT IS WHAT I WANT......lol. You guys crack me up, a straight taper 23"bull barrel will be heavier than a 21" tapered barrel of the same caliber and chambering, and it is going to have a different feel and you will have a lighter carbine and IT IS WHAT I WANT. Just like the guy that wants to have there bolt and barrel fluted on there 700 Remington, it may not make much difference in weight but it will save some weaight and IT IS WHAT THEY WANT.

FYI, Thompson Center factory Contender carbine barrels at 23" are bull barrels and the earlier 21" barrels are tapered so there is a big weight difference, now the Custom Shop TC Contender Barrels can be different sizes and weights but I though here on the campfire single shot form your guys would know the difference but I was wrong, you guys would rather obsess about what you think I SHOULD WANT......lol.

Didn't know about the contour difference. Given that, WHAT YOU WANT makes more sense.

It might just be easier, if not cheaper to buy the one YOU WANT and sell the one you have. There's at least one on GB now.

By swiching to the 21" tapered barrel from the 23" bull barrel I saved 14.4 ounces, just like I thought wink
