For many years my standard 30 06 load with a 180 grain projectile has been 56 grains of H4350 for a bit over 2700 fps.
In more recent times seems that quite a few are loading 180 grainers to 2800 fps.
What's your pet load for 3006 with a 180 grain projectile ?

My latest load for the .30-06 with 180-grain Partitions is 55.5 grains of Re16. I'm getting just under 2750 fps with it. I have found I can easily exceed 2800 fps with both Re16 and Re17, but the accuracy just does not seem to be there. I think 2750 fps should be sufficient in any case.

I use 56.0 gr Re 16 under a 180 Partition for a bit over 2800. 58.0 gr H4350 under the same bullet yields the same velocity.

Same as bwinters...180 A/bond and 58 grains of H-4350, Rem cases. Winchester LR Magnum primer. In my rifle with a 22" barrel it gives pretty much factory velocity of about 2740 fps. 58 grains of H-4350 is the max load that the Speer manual lists so work up to it. I usually just shoot pairs to check the scope and they're usually .75" or less.

Works great on elk too.

I use 58.5 grains of Hunter powder. It's going a little better than 2800fps. With a 180 grain Nosler AB

65 grains 4831SC, compressed... LR Primer.. Light roll crimp.

Work up to it.

180 accubonds and 180 scirocoos with 57 grains of RL-17 seems to work well for my brother and other buddy I load 30-06 for.

56 of imr4350 under a partition lit by fed 210m primer. OAL on mine gets kept to 3.25 to make sure they have no issues in an unmodified m98 mag.

62.0 grains R-22 (Caution Max Load) with 180 NP is sub MOA for me.

First load I put through my Tikka superlite

58 gr Hunter 180 Nosler 2750 fps

Rl22 with 180gr partition

Had to chime in here. Shot yesterday. Only 3 shot groups, but they all landed on the target where the scope was set up. 55.0 grains IMR 4350, Barnes 180 gr. TSX BT, sparked by Federal 210M in WW cases. All loads were weighed. Groups went from 0.26" to 0.74" (4 - 3 shot groups) and averaged 2797 fps out of my Kimber Subalpine (24" barrel). My "California" load, as lead will be totally banned for hunting here in 2019. Terry

Why is velocity more of a concern than accuracy? When I find a load that meets my accuracy criteria I do not increase the charge any more. Dead is dead, won't make any difference to the deer what the velocity was.

For me it's a combination of both accuracy and velocity. I'll load develop till I find a load that meets both my accuracy and velocity criteria for the calibre and the game I intend to hunt.
If I'm chasing small game at longer ranges accuracy is the overriding concern; in this case it's larger game in thickish bush, ranges aren't great I don't need sub MOA performance.
The ability to put a premium projectile into the vitals from less than ideal angles is the objective, a bit more momentum from a higher muzzle velocity won't be a handicap.

Case capacity makes a difference. I have loaded 54.5 grains behind a 180 interlock/partition/pro-hunter for years, WW and Rem brass gives about 2600 and some change; yet the same load in F-C brass which is thicker (~200 gr empty, no primer) gives a tick over 2700. IMR 4831 is another powder that does well when seeking max velocity 180 gr 30-06 loads. 56.5 grs and w-w brass has been a go to load for years. It runs about 2750.

I took the .280A1 barrel off my old Featherweight and refitted the .30/06 barrel which takes and even 60 grains for H 4350 to break 2800fps with 180's. This barrel has always gobbled a couple of grains more than commonly stated. Only the chronograph can confirm where you are in like pressures. If I put the commonly used 55.5 or 56gn loads in my rifles I get around 2600 and even 58gn only gets to 2700fps with some bullets and not all.

Using other sources for powder charges is only a guide you can reference to and you really need a decent chronograph to learn the apples for apples for velocity to charge weights and pressures.
