Saw the sale listing on Whitaker's website and it has me thinking maybe I should upgrade my 35 year old vari xiic. I had an older vx1 and the power adjustment ring required a pair of channel locks to adjust it. For those of you that own one of the latest version of the vx1 did they address that problem?n thanks

I bought one 2 years ago and I don't have any trouble adjusting the power. It's tight, but I can adjust the power with 2 fingers.

I just bought a 3-9 X 40 and the magnification ring turns very easily. I wish my VX-6's were the same (my only gripe).

Tight Ocular or rings just send it back. Leupold will fix it or replace it for the cost of shipping only. Can't beat their customer service.

Sorry I was Exaggerating with my channel lock remark but it was very hard to turn compared to any other variable I ever used. That was on an older model vx1 and seemed a common complaint via the internet so I know it wasn't just me. I was hoping that was something they addressed when they revamped the vx1s a few years back.

Mine is heavier than a much older vari-x III, but still very, very smooth. If it had the lump on the power change ring the older ones had, it would be about perfect.

Just saw Whittaker's listing for the VX-1 3-9x40: $149!!! You won't see that again anytime soon!

Thats a good buy, I have owned a couple and both have been very good. I also own an older Vari X II, bought it new 30 years ago and still going strong. The last couple I bought I waited for Opticsplanet to have a 10-12% off and got it through them. Usually about $180.

I've purchased two new vx-1's in the last 6 months. The power rings are no harder to turn than on any of my numerous other variables..

A new production VX-1 is the same scope as a pre 2012 VX-2. Either is a good bit better than a vari-x anything.

No VX-1 experience but I really like the VX-2 scopes! Thats a good buy, I have owned a couple and both have been very good. I really like the VX-2 and with Opticsplanets sales picked up a vx-2 2-7x33 for $211 memorial day weekend. At that price I should have bought 2 before the price went back to $299.

my vx-1 3x9x40 started to wander on its second trip to the range on my 6.5 grendel. turrets felt like dried puke mixed with sand. maybe 30rounds fired, and it's kaput (yes, mounts/rings tightened properly and all screws secure; i've been at it a while) ...

I've got a a couple of the post 2012 VX1 mfg, a 2-7x33 & 3-9x40. Serial # suffix is X, 2013. Mine are good scopes. Decent glass IMO and the adjustments work as they're supposed to, 1/4" at a hundred as advertised with distinct clicks and they hold zero. They're better than the pre 2012 VX1s.

You can regulary buy them of off Flea bay for around $225.00 and no they are not fakes.

See if they have a 4th of July sale then trade your old scope in. It will be almost free.
