Been anticipating CZ chambering this caliber for 4 + years now. I could not wait for them to get this done so I located a pre-chambered barrel and swapped her out to the 1 in 9 twist 24' Grendel. Must say I have liked this rifle lot. Must say I have been wondering if I may just prefer a 1 in 8 twist.
Well last week I heard that the first 400 - 527 Americans chambered in 6.5 Grendel had hit the American shores. Guess I justified another rifle chambered in Grendel based on the 1 in 8 twist. looking forward to seeing how she preforms.
Thought the FFL inquired may I ask you a question? and my reply was sure. Then it came - why such a weird caliber. My response is that I could not imagine a more fitting deer caliber for the CZ 527 action.
The 17 Hornet In this this action has been a great target & varmint cartridge in this 527 action. Now this Grendel has and will be a great rifle to reach for when it is time to head out for a deer hunt. Beautiful, light weight and lethal. To look at the cartridge she looks a little feeble. Start to look at the ballistics and you will be surprised at the down range performance to be had. Efficient use of roughly 30 grains of propellant under a 100 to 130 grain projectile can be magic i suppose.
Anxious to see if this one will like loads the same or similar loads that have been doing so well in the 1 in 9 twist version. Time will tell.

Certainly sounds like a handy little rifle...certainly equal to the 30/30 and then some.
congrats for securing one.

It seems like a .300 Blackout necked to 6.5mm. Is that right?

It seems like a .300 Blackout necked to 6.5mm. Is that right? Negative. The Grendel is a "tweener" case head at 0.441". .300 BO is 0.378". 6.5 Creed is 0.478"

I've got one backordered as well. If it shoots as good as my 7.62x39 Carbine, it'll be a delight. What I REALLY would like to have is a Grendel in the FS Mannlicher configuration. I haven't seen any reference to the CZ custom shop lately (other than handguns). I might give them a call and see if it is do-able.

It seems like a .300 Blackout necked to 6.5mm. Is that right? More like a 7.62 x 39 necked down and slightly blown out to a slightly longer 6.5 cal w a SR primer. The 220 russian blown out may be more accurate yet not as easy for most to envision. I have really liked this chambering in my initial 24" barrel. Double checked this barrel and she is just shy of 24" long. To my disappointment the magazine well has not been altered to accept the shorter three round magazine we have been lead to believe is coming and is depicted in the 20 17 catalog. Will be calling CZ USA as I will truly prefer the ability to utilize the three round mags to come.

Yes, it is the 7.62x39 necked down and "improved" with a small primer. The case is not longer. The Grendel came from the PPC cases, which came from the 220 Russian, which came from the 7.62x39. One can easily make Grendel brass from 7.62x39.

A friend of mine was shooting a 6.5 PPC roughly 30 years ago. Had to be similar. GD

Running a BHW 20" barrel on an AR15 with a 1/8 twist and I am very impressed with it. The Grendel round is very deceitful with its ballistics. Extremely accurate also. I love bolt guns but this AR is growing on me. Coyotes are going to get hammered with it I hope plus deer. Have shot from 85 gr. Sierra HP to 123 gr bullets and it is a consistent 1/2" or better rifle. Looking forward to your range report

Hunterapp I had placed a pre order back in March with a deposit for one and was told that 300 were coming and I was #293 on the list. I had seen over the last few weeks several listed on the internet for sale, in stock, so got my dealer to check. As of last Tuesday, CZ told him that somewhere between 190 and 200 arrived, I cannot remember the exact number, and that it might be two to three months, possibly longer before more arrive. He cancelled my order and refunded my deposit as he was able to cancel the order with CZ. I went ahead and now have one on order, shipped in fact with tracking number which is supposed to arrive in town Monday. Best part is that I saved about $100 by doing this.

One can easily make Grendel brass from 7.62x39. Not true Grendel cases which use a small rifle primer vs the large rifle primer of the 7.62. I built my first AR Grendel 6-7 years ago when brass and loaded ammo was hard to come by and very expensive. I did find a good deal on some IMI (Israeli Military Industries) 7.62x39 brass which has all been resized to Grendel. I simply load with about a 10% reduced charge and shoot in my AR. The unfired cartridges feed through the semi auto action fine, and while accuracy is not gilt edge, is fine for fun shooting, and I get fire formed brass out of the deal. I acutally at the time bought 2000 cases for what 2 to 300 Lapua cases would have cost. I did get some of the Lapua Grendel cases and am thinking it will be interesting to see how identical loads in both cases will compare, large rifle primer vs small rifle primers.

Had the New 6.5 Grendel to the range twice now. What do I like?
1st I like that they went with the full 24" barrel.
2nd I like the accuracy I am seeing thus far.
3rd really like how she is cleaning up. Six to eight patches when using CFE 223 powder and she is clean.
What would I have liked to see different?
1st would like to see the bottom metal magazine area exactly like the 2017 depiction in the sales brochure, As opposed to the traditional gusseted trigger cut out that will prevent the use of a 3 round M1 type magazine.
2nd would like to have seen the neck a tighter .295" diameter as opposed to the Sami .300" diameter. larger diameter may make sense in a auto loader. Not so much with a bolt action. JMHO

Back a few years ago Remington made 7.62 x 39 cases with a small primer pocket, so I bought a bag of 500 from Graf's and a set of forming dies for 6mm PPC. Used 50 of them and then lost interest. Last week while cleaning up I found the bag, and the fired cases, it wasn't a dream after all. If I hadn't just built a 6mm BR Norma rifle, I'd give the Grendel a thought, but lead free varmint bullets are not available in that caliber, as the inexpensive Barnes Varmint Grenade and Nosler BT Lead Free are in 6mm.
