A local shop has one of these new on the shelf with an attractive price. Haven't owned and don't recall using any of the MarkIII pistols. Am I gonna like it?

What are the main differences between the mk2 and the mk3?

Mk III added a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect, on the negative side. On the positive side, the magazine release was finally moved to where a mag release ought to be.

I have a threaded Mk III 22/45 and it's every bit as good as any other Mk ever made; meaning it's a great pistol.

What he said. The only thing to add is that the Mk III's are drilled and tapped from the factory and come with a Weaver style one piece scope base.

Johnw: My local gun shop has a lightly used MK-III 22/45 heavy barrel for sale at $300.00 so I would assume that a NIB pistol would be a good buy at $299.00.
I just buy these Ruger MK-I's, MK-II's, MK-III's and MK-IV's when they come along and I have the money.
They hold their value and are super fun guns.
Enough for me.
Best of luck to you if you decide to go for it - I wish I could be more help on your price check inquiry.

I sure think so.

There is a kit available to eliminate the LCI and plug the hole. The mag safety is easily disabled.

Picked up a 22/45 not long ago.
Had one some time back, same model too............"Great Eight".
Didn't like the 1st version frame.
Still don't like it............but might try a newer one swapped if it shoots good.

LGS has a 5.5" target 22/45 MK3.
Super tempted to buy that and just leave it iron sighted.
The 8" will have an optic.

I bought a Mark III 22/45 Lite in the fall of 2014. I really like it, but after doing a fair amount of reading prior to it's purchase, I bought and added several things before even shooting it.

Got a Volquartsen target trigger & sear, and a Tandemcross Kanewolf slingshot conversion, hammer bushing, and an LCI replacement insert. I had some jams due to my not getting the magazine seated fully quite a few times, but I ended up buying a set of Tandemcross magazine bumpers and that problem (almost completely) went away.

brought it home this morning. Raining pretty steadily but I put a couple of magazines full into the dirt pile. I think I'm gonna like it. Also brought home a few boxes of mini mag HPs. $8.99 per hundred. Gotta like that, and at a small town LGS at that...
