Cimarron's Big Guns: End Of Trail 2017 |
|
First introduced in the 1872 Sharps catalog, the 2 1/2-inch (casing only) .50-90, frontiersmen dubbed it the "Big Fifty," or the "Texas Fifty." This heavy load offered greater power than the .50-70 cartridge, that had been a favorite with buffalo hunters during the heyday of the hide hunting years. It was with this round that hunter Billy Dixon accomplished his famous 1,538-yard shot, toppling an Indian warrior during the 1874 battle of Adobe Walls, in the Texas Panhandle. The .50-90 (also known as the .50-100 or .50-110, depending on bullet weight and powder charge) was the largest cartridge Sharps offered while the great herds still roamed the western ranges. Stylish and accurate, Cimarron's Big Fifty features beautiful, select wood with hand checkering on the pistol-gripped stock and forearm, an early Hartford-style German silver nose cap, a color cased receiver, double set triggers, and a 34-inch half round/half octagon cut-rifled, blued barrel. This classic buffalo gun comes with Soule Midrange sights, spirit level and globe front sights with inserts. The Big Fifty is our top of the line Sharps rifle! |
