Most common question for 223, would be is it big enough and is it legal. The former you are probably used to asking. Most people would consider it marginal, not for an adult, and most be selective with shot. I don't know why you don't like chuck hawks, other than he doesn't agree with you. But that is a long list. When talking deer cartidges, 223 doesn't even get brought up unless someone's like ar15s. Ar10 would be better, but they probably don't know what it is.

Look at a reloading manual it will be listed as varmit.

Bullet technology has increased expansion. But withe so many lightly recoiling rounds, why?

No. Same shot no matter the caliber.

Isn't it the same caliber, just more powder?

So I would agree, grain and bullet hasn't changed. AI probably doesn't account for much of a difference.

Read it again. You asked about 30-06 and .223.

Ahh, I asked if you would be more selective with 223 shot placement, than30-06.

But I think it is funnythe guy with the 223 AI. All that effort for a tiny returns. Most be desperate for a little more.

Is the question still which Montana?
If so, I'll vote for the 7-08.

If not? Carry on this is too entertaining!

The "return" on AI'ing the 223 was mainly about less trimming for me. The rifles were going to be rebarrelled to get the twist I wanted and the AI really reduces the need to trim. ...but that only matters to folks who shoot.

I know of no one shooting an A.I chamber mainly for the slight performance improvement. Most guys do it for brass life and decreased trimming that the Ackley body brings to the table. Take my 22 K-Hornet for example. With hornet brass being paper thin they never lasted long until it was reamed to Ackley specs, now I get 12-15 loads from my brass and I load them plenty stout.

That it gets you a little more speed is just a bonus for guys that actually use their guns and not just look at them particularly when lots of calibers are still experiencing a brass shortage.

That is intesting to know. For that reason maybe I would. The amount of speed didn't seem worth it. With a 30-06 I could just drop the grain. Not as easy with a smaller caliber. Though some people that small amount might be just what they need for their range.

You guys keep it up and ol' zerk is gonna AI his 45-70.

And what is this "trim" you speak of? I think I need some of that. Yep, I'm gonna get me some trim.

Should mention that the "effort" is minimal. Shooting regular ammo, which in all of mine has been exceptionally accurate, and you have the formed brass. Then all you're doing is reloading....just like you would with a standard.

Put a little "effort" in this weekend forming brass with a couple of kids. Both of them got to shoot at 200 yards for the first time, and they both lit up the steel on the first shot forming brass.

There's really no extra effort and several +'s with the AI. The +'s aren't that massive, but if you reload there really isn't a downside.

Like with an AI, as you get older the need to/for trim is reduced.....
