I'm looking to have a factory model 70 featherweight stock re-finished. No dents or dings. Just looking to have old stain removed and new lighter color applied. Recommendations please.

Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Redneck does a great job on this.

You should think about doing it yourself. Ton's of info out there on how to do it. Just don't do a campfire search on the topic unless you want to see a pissing match royal.

I would offer to do it but no telling how quick I could turn it around. Currently have three in the works. I really like doing Winchesters with a combination of Alkanet root and red tint. I think they did the originals with the red tracking dye they put in diesel fuel for farm use. The post 64 stain they use is muddy and designed to cover up flaws or really bland wood. Almost always an oil finish will bring out grain and figure that was previously obscured.

I was looking through the Brownells web site and ran across one I had forgotten about Velvet Oil it is an all in one type finish and really easy to use. No experience necessary.

Get the Citron ( Citrocel?) finish remover while your at it and then you would just need abrasives.
