Its been a while but I'm glad to be back. I just got my 264 WM 700 CDL back from my gunsmith. He trued the action and changed the 26" barrel to a 30" Kreiger light Palma. I have 2 questions.

1. Which powder do you guys recommend? I'm shooting 140gr Bergers?
2. What is the rule of thumb for powders when it comes to longer barrels? Longer barrels slower powders?

Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

I'd be trying RL33, RL25, Retumbo and possibly H1000 or Magnum with the 140's. you should see some serious speeds with that barrel. Looking forward to seeing your speeds.

Don't own one but IMR 7828 is a super powder for Weatherby's from 257 up through the 300's. I think it would do well in your chamber.

US869 + Fed 215. I've tried the others (RL-33, Retumbo, H-1000) but this is my accuracy powder. 75.o to 77.o gr. I top out at 3,100 fps, but the accuracy is fantastic. Will be flinging the 143 ELD-X this afternoon.

RL-26 with the 142 gr LRAB has produced good accuracy and plenty of velocity in my 264. I'm using 62.0 gr and getting 3100 fps.

coues24a,

Have only reloaded for two .264's, but tried a number of powders in both. With 140's RL-25 and Ramshot Magnum produced the best overall results in velocity and accuracy.

Thank you to everyone. I used to use Retumbó with good results and still have three pounds. I have some rl33 and H1000 as well. I am very interested in rl26. Thoughts? I will email Berger as well.

My 264 (on its second barrel now) liked H 1000 and 140 gr bullets with the original Win barrel. The new 27 inch Pac-Nor is working well with the 130 AB and Magnum at 3300 fps.

Retumbo and RL 26 might work well for you. They were both a bit slow in my barrels.

Contrary to popular belief, the same powder which gives maximum velocity in a twenty inch barrel will also give max velocity in your thirty inch barrel. The same powder, obviously will not be as fast from a short barrel as from a long barrel. And also the slower powder will produce more muzzle flash and noise from a shorter tube.
