I am listening on the radio this afternoon.
Sounds like the boys are damn busy this afternoon. Those guys that fight those fires are a different breed. Hardcore and full of moxy. I always keep those guys in my prayers because they've got a very dangerous and unsung job and they don't get the recognition they deserve. Stay safe guys.

Yeah smaller departments can't afford to spare too many guys or else they leave their area of responsibility undermanned. We provided mutual aid to departments in Eastern Washington several times serving in either direct wildfire attack operations or covering fire and aid to the local town freeing that department and all their resources to focus on the wildfire. I preferred covering the fire and aid calls because it was different and the injuries were often unique compared to the "city". Oftentimes the rural departments had more appropriate, task specific equipment and they spent more time drilling in wild land operations than we did so they were better suited to that and we ran a lot of aid calls and had at least one or two paramedics with us so we were better utilized in town.
You're probably better off being available as needed locally Jim, than you would if you were across the state. Either way stay safe my friend.

Yeah, I every time I go fight fire for the state, there is a huge bust at home.
It was easier as a plain old fire fighter, now that I am a Captain/EMT it is harder to get away. Hell, I have too much to do on the ranch anyway!
I hear you about covering different companies. We all have things we are better or worse at.
I would not go to New York City to cover for high rise fire, and those boys would not come over here to fight wildland fire!

Hey guys, thanks so much.... Out place is fine at the moment, it got awful dang close. Us and 3 awesome BLM guys kept it at bay in the cottonwoods about 160 yards from the house. I have been disking most of the afternoon because it may double back across the river... Between this side of the Musselshell and over in Garfield co, it is up to 200,000 acres and chugging on every second..
I will hang some pics later.....
Ben

Ben Glad to hear the news bud. I hope it doesn't sneak back around and bite you. Do y'all have a lot of fuel on the ground there on account of the spruce beetles? I just spent a lot of time in the wilds of Colorado. They are in for a special kind of hell when some of those sections of forest catch on fire.
