Well, Dirtfarmer you got me thinking. I have several 22's, a 257, a few 6.5s and a 30-06. No looney can let a gap like exists between my 6.5s and my 30-06 go on for long. I started looking for a 7mm-08. Yesterday I found an NIB Ruger Ultralight on Gun Broker and placed a bid on it. We'll see how it goes. If I win it, it will fit in well with my other Ruger UL rifles in 257 Roberts and 30-06, and my Savage Lightweight hunter in 223.

Good thread, DF.
I've been hunting with a 7-08 for 22 years now. It's been fantastic.
I'm going to play around with a Creed, but it isn't out of necessity.

Never had a 7-08 but I do have a 7x57 I like a lot. M70 fwt, push feed. It's a fun gun to shoot and I've taken a nice buck with it.

When Winchester came out with the 7x57 in their Featherweight line I bought one and loved it. Once they became scarce a friend of mine offered me far more money than I paid for it which means he bought it. I've never regretted parting with a rifle and cartridge combination quite like I do with that one.

I have been a 7RM advocate ever since it first came out. Just three years ago because of age and losing the vision in my right eye I tried the 7-08 in a left hand Rugger Hawkeye and have not looked back. Light recoil and it is deadly accurate it is now my go to rifle although I still have my big 7. Just today sighting for Deer season where I usually shoot 139 grain Hornadays which are deadly accurate in this rifle I tried some Nosler e-tip 140 grainers as here we have to go to non lead pretty soon. I was really surprise to see them hitting half a inch higher than the Hornadays and right on line with a minus inch group. I am really beginning to love this rifle and cartridge. My Daughter Sandi who has 5 rifles including a 7RM also has a Tikka compact in 7-08 and you couldn't tear it our of her hands, Why Tikka stopped making the compact in 7-08 is beyond me. I might add that her Tikka shoots every factory load so far that you put in it under a inch. As a 80 year old retired Gunsmitth I must say this rifle and cartridge combination is one of the finest shooters I have ever seen.

As a long time (since 1982) 7mm RM shooter, I've often thought about adding a 7mm-08 to my battery. Still a fan but none in the safe. Instead I ended up with a .280 Rem in a Ruger #1 that I later sold and replaced with a Ruger Hawkeye. That one would have been a 7mm-08 but I already had the .280 dies and brass.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

Shot a blr 7-08 back in the early through mid nineties. We had a ton of fox back then and plugged quite a few right in the melon with that rifle. One gun I really wish I had back. Fast handling, accurate, and fun to shoot.

I've got a real early custom shop model seven in 7-08 with a Winchester style safety on it. Does anyone know if this was a custom shop option?

Got my 7mm-08 out.. Need to load some ammo for it.. Haven't shot a lot of game or varmints with it.. The few whitetails I used it on it did ok.. Plan to try it on antelope this fall.. Nice little rifle, but never got real excited about it..

I've always been a big fan of the 7mm's...currently hunt with a Remington Ti 700 7mm-08, Ruger No. 1A 7x57, and 700 Mountain Rifle in .280. In the past, I've also played around with the 7mm TCU and 7-30 in a Contender, and have even owned a couple of 7mm Rem Mags.

My Favorite 7x57, a Brno 21: I keep a Savage model 10 in 7mm-08 in the truck for when I make trips back to Texas. I get invited along to hunt often and don't mind the Savage bouncing around. Shoots good though!

I used to love the 7mm-08 until i got my 308. Cheaper ammo, available everywhere and to me, less recoil out of my savage rifle. I have 2 savage rifles, one is the 7mm-08 which kicks like a mule and a 308 that is tame. both shooting corelokts.

Can't see how a 7mm-08 kicks more than a 308 in the same rifle design unless vastly different bullet weights used.

Guys, how about sharing your favorite 140 NAB, 130 IL, 145 LRX, 150 SSII and 160 NAB loads...
I would think the 175 ABLR would be moving pretty slow in the 7mm-08. To me, that more of a 7RM bullet. My 8 twist Shilen 7RM loves 168, 175 and 180 gr. bullets.
DF I like my Mtn Rifle with the 140 NAB and RL19.
