I have a #1 in 6.5 Creed with a 28 inch barrel and it doesn't seem as long as it is. I don't think 30 would be unbearably long and if it is you can always cut some off. A friend took a #1 in 30/06 and re barreled it to 405 Win to use in Ohio. Turn around time was a couple of weeks.
Lee Newton suggested a Ruger smith. Going 30" stainless, 5R riflling, true up action/block, same taper as 458 (continued out), remount scope rail, just < a grand, 6 months.
WB gets 3600 in 26" with 127 ..... 4 more inches should please the girls !
