The 220s I have owned shot the greatest number of brands/types of sabots well but I didn't find any single brand to shoot the best. I didn't try all brands/lines available but I did shoot quite a few. I would recommend buying a 220 and I still entertain thoughts of doing so again to be my general purpose slug gun.

My most baccurate 20 ga slug gun is an H&R single shot with the heavy barrel. The catch is, it does so with only one sabot load and that one is the most expensive commonly available. The others I have tried have run from acceptable to horrible at 50 yards and beyond. This is my specialty gun if I have to shoot longer distances in a slug zone.

My "go to" is a Rem 870 with Hastings rifled barrel. It is as accurate as the 220s are overall with a couple of loads but, of course, those loads are discontinued (Buckhammer) or expensive (Lightfield Hybrid). It is more than good enough for my typical use of under 50 yards and can bre adequate to greater if needed.

As mentioned, the Savage 220 is a good choice as it is likely to be at least adequate with any given load but with judiicious selection one might find similar results with a different slug gun if a bolt action is not desired.

I have seen a shell but not a firearm chambered for it. Last I knew, only only Hastings produced ammo and guns in this and they closed their doors many years ago. I want to say that there is a custom shop putting out a similar chambering using a full length metal case but I am not positive.

It was an interesting concept but not very popular. Probably more important as a collectible or curiosity than for practicality.

I've got a Savage 220 that puts three 2 3/4" Accutips all touching at 100 yards. Looking to sell it too!

Above mentioned are good no doubt. But, I bought a Mossberg 500 pump in 20ga for my son. Every deer he shot with it dropped right there or not far. Bought when he was young and had a coupon for new buttstock (longer length of pull) when he grew up and we did that. Maybe 28" barrel?? dont remember, but it was ported. 2 3/4 or 3" slugs tried. Pretty darn accurate. Just thought I'd give Mossberg a vote. Plain, just works.
