When if ever did Remington outfit the 510P with a barrel mounted rear sight that was mounted in a dovetail slot? All the early 51x series gun that I've seen have barrel mounted rear sights attached with 2 screws, never via a dovetail in the barrel. In the past few days, I seen 3 guns like this (dovetail mounted rear sights) in passing. Wish I could have had a closer look and got the date code on thebarrel.

I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

I just bought one. Mint, with the dovetail slots. I think it's 1957. I'll check.

Also picked up a Rem 121 (1947) and a Marlin 39A (1954, 20" mountie). $975 for all three. TeeHee

That's closer to Grand theft.

Does your 512 have the barrel dovetail AND the 2 screw holes, or just the dovetail?

One could 'assume' that the way the sight was mounted changed to the samemethod at the same time, across the 51X line.

I just looked, dovetail only. The 512 has a feed tube, holds 15 22lr I think.

My 511-x has the fully adjustable rear sight similar to the one on the Nylon 66 so it has two widely spaced holes. I have seen other 500 series rifles with two smaller holes on either side of the dovetail and just the two holes, no dovetail. But I have never seen a dovetail sight installed.
