BAIKAL 243 SINGLE SHOT

Has anyone tried these Russian made guns? Keep seeing them on sale on CDNN Sports...

I've got a Baikal over/under....... 12 ga over 223. Mounted a Williams peep sight on it. Shoots 223 well as far as I can see. Had a 1.5-3 Weaver on it and it shot fine. Not a match rifle. Now, put a Nikon on it. I'm playing with regulating the 12 ga to where the 223 shoots. The .243 from CDNN for $190 should be just fine. There is an FFL close to me that does Buds Gun Shop transfers for $10. If he would do the same on that it would be worth it. The O/U is built like a tank. Not real pretty, but functional.

I had a Baikal single shot shotgun years ago. I hope they improved the stock. It was a 12 ga. Too light and kicked like a mule.

It does not have to be ugly to work in the cold. Damned with faint praise?

My highly prejudiced view of Russian manufacturing is that it is worse than Chinese. Again, highly prejudiced, I think the Chinese are capable of building quality and have a work ethic similar to say Japanese. Cheep sells. And smart business is making sales. The Chinese make a choice, the Russians cannot help it. The Russian work ethic is at the bottom. I worked side by side with Chinese, Check and Russian. Many others over the years. Race and Nationality and they are not all the same. I have to assume any one motivated to change country has above average ambition. I can only image what was left behind. The check guy could talk all day long about Russian quality.

I have two Baikal guns. One is a 410 over under with fixed F/M chokes. I took it this w/e to the club and shot some clays, was impressed by how well it shoots to poa.
the other is a 22m over 410 with choke tube. It was my coyote gun till I got my 222 over 20 savage. I put a 2x Tasco on it it and the SG barrel paterns just above the horizontal crosshair.
Neither on is too pretty but both are extremely functional.

I have a Baikal .22lr over .410 that I keep by the door at my hunting cabin. It is sturdy, roughly finished, very stiff opening the action, but it always works. The .22 barrel is amazingly accurate. It shoots 1 hole groups with open sights at 50' with every brand of ammo I try.

Enjoy the hunt while it lasts!

There are quite a few Baikals in various forms here in Canada. I have owned a couple single shot 20ga in the past. They worked well and were rugged firearms. Others seem to say the same about them.

I bought a used Baikal last week in a single shot 7.62x39 with scope mount. I expect the same from this gun as well. Waiting for it to arrive.

Most of our rifle range is closed for upgrades except the 50yd. I shot the Baikal there today with surplus and three different other factory ammos. The WW shot crappy as did the S&B. The Horandy factory SST shot three shots touching. Working well with that ammo. The trigger had lots of creep. No issues otherwise.

Not a bad rifle for $300 used price.
