I had a guy make me a very nice holster for the FNP TAC with Trijicon. I contacted him about making one for the 40 and all things were heading in the right direction until he stopped messaging me back, so here I am.
I have seen the chest holster, but those don't really interest me for two reasons. It would take an entire cow to make it big enough to loop around me, and I always have my binoculars on, so one would interfere with the other.
What have you Model 40 users used for a holster for this behemoth of a gun?

...it's about the only game in town... When I bought mine I contacted or looked at all the manufacturers I could and the only holster available was the Simply Rugged Cuda. Rob had it to me in about two weeks... I just did some looking for Model 40 again and found nothing... Bob

Casey, I am most likely going to go with TR holsters. Kydex. Mine is a hunting and hiking pistol, not for CCW. I don't need fine leather and concealment.

They are the ones who made my holster for my 40. I did opt for the chest harness but the holster can also be used as a belt holster.

After reading the responses, and looking at Simply Rugged's web site, I called them. They were able to answer all my questions, and I ordered a Cuda plain brown leather holster. I can wear it cross draw. It will fit the G40 with the Trijicon RMR sight. I emailed Rob a picture of the pistol with the sight, which he requested.

kt-mech.com makes their Akela for the 40MOS with a lot of options.
I've been checking them out for my 40MOS, but want to check out Simply Rugged now after seeing this thread.
The KT Akela as multiple mounting options, including a receiver system to make switching from belt to pack waist strap simple, and that's something I like.
They can make them to accommodate a weapon light system, level 2 retention, etc.
Price increases, of course, as you add options.

I was kind of looking at that Kanai chest holster for hunting.

Kanai would be a good choice. I just don't want three pounds of pistol along with my range finder and binoculars bouncing on my chest.

Casey, my Simply Rugged Cuda showed up in today's mail. It is a perfect fit. Rob told me he used his own G40 MOS with Trijicon RMR sight to make my holster. What service.

Sam, that Cuda is starting to look real good for the G40 I've got in the pipeline.
As you already know, I've talked to darn near every holster maker out there.
Bob is right. There really aren't any other good choices.

Like the way it rides in crossdraw, Sam. Gonna have to pick up one of them.

Simply Rugged is the way to go. They don't seem to be afraid to make a holster for pretty much anything. I too have a Cuda on order but for me EAA Hunter 6" 10mm

Just put in my order today for a KT Akela. Should be able to put up some pics soon (it's for a Glock 40MOS).

Got my KT holster in 3 business days from order to holster in my hand.
It's very, very nice. They emailed with me a lot to answer my questions, and I got exactly the holster that I was envisioning, that does exactly what I wanted it to do. Very pleased with the service and the end result.
