There is zero chance of me buying either so this news will not affect me in any way shape or form. WHo knows though the CHinese might run it better then the idiots at Fiat.

Hell, 10 years after an Asian co. Buys them, all these red blodded patriots will be telling us how they; last forever, repair themselves, and actually produce more fuel than they use!

No kidding- the Jeep Cherokee my daughter owned was a rolling POS, when it rolled. Mostly it sat needing repairs.

I'll likely buy another Ford. I'd like a Subaru Forrester, I have nothing against the Japanese but I don't trust that new fangled CVT transmission to go 250,000 miles.
Cars and trucks are major purchases, I want as much US content as I can afford. China, NFW.

Well, your Jeep, or Dodge and Ford truck are 80% sourced Mexican.

Find out late rthere is a class action suit and a cover up by subaru. Have know other ones to have major problems too and Subaru just gives the run around.

Wound up putting 2 in that truck.
Before that last one lost oil pressure i signed the title and told the wife to go trade it for the car of her choice.
I think they gave her 1000.00 for it and i didn't care. I just wanted to get rid of that piece of crap.

I had an '81 F-150 that I bought new. It had the 3 speed + overdrive manual transmission. About 120,000 miles or so the input shaft bearing was getting bad and so I had the tranny rebuilt at my local Ford dealer. The mechanic showed me the worn bearings and they were marked " made in China" and there was a tag on the tranny stating that it was assembled in Mexico... this was from 1981 oh and the truck was made in the USA and still had foreign components way back then.

Saw many Great Wall pick-ups when we were living in Australia. No idea if they were WAF.

My "next" Jeep would likely be an old CJ8 - doubt that will come from China. My "next" Dodge would likely to never exist.

Drove a Haval Saw many Great Wall pick-ups when we were living in Australia. No idea if they were WAF. I drove a Haval H1 (the SUV/Crossover line for Great Wall) for a year and a half. Cost all of $10,000 and realistically worth about that price. I don't think it would be much of a game changer here in the USA. The thing is, is that the slightly larger H2, with the 1.5l turbo/6sp is a LOT more vehicle, and currently running about $11,000 equipped nicely. That car could upset the market, as it delivers a lot more value, and with a lot more sophistication and refinement than the H1. Durability wise, I really couldn't say, only driving the H1 about 30,000 kilometers without issues. Well, the Chinese market spec'd wipers were just absolute crap, with a life of about 3 hours without degradation. After that, they just broke down. But in general, the vehicle wasn't really up to snuff. Silly stuff, like the GPS had a Russian accent (we called her Nadya) and used data that was hopelessly out of date. If you used the GPS, then you didn't have a clock. You could not change the radio station if the GPS was in use. Back up, and the radio turned off while the picture was on the display. They forgot to install the bar for the hood, but that was remedied by the dealer n/p. The thing is, is that s--t changes FAST in China. Rapid improvements all the time. In 5 years, I have little doubt that there will be a significant Chinese presence in the global car market. Heck, China already is the worlds largest car market by country...
