Has anybody loaded, tested, competed or hunted with this new sleek Sierra bullet?

They are soon to be available down here and I'm keen for any insight on how it performs and if there are any tricks to loading for it successfully.

Chambering is likely to be a 243 with a 1-7" barrel.

I've got about 1300 of them through my Dasher, what do you want to know?

They're VERY long, requiring a good amount more mag room than any 105 - assuming the same relationship to the lands. If you're short on length with your setup it is a factor you'll want to consider.

They group alright, I've shot a few bugholes but can't count on them, I do get 1/2 moa 5 shot groups easily enough - which is good enough for the competitions I do (PRS and PRS style). They don't seem super sensitive to seating depth in my limited testing, I've used them both jammed and jumped and they shot about the same. I don't really go all OCD trying to get the best groups possible anymore, I do the minimum amount of work required to get it "good enough" and get to shooting.

Myself and others I shoot with here are using a g7 of .310-.315 to make impacts, verified out to 1400, with a decently wide range of starting velocities represented.

I wouldn't build a gun planning to run them without a 1-7.5" or faster twist, though at higher elevations some are getting away with it. The faster 6mm barrels are becoming easier to find here, but it took some looking when these first came out, most people were stocking 1-8's then.

I THINK I'm planning to run them again for next years competition season...but if I had to use a 1-8" barrel I wouldn't fret that I was giving up much with the best bullets in the 105-107 range. Or the 115 DTAC for that matter.

Def going 1-7". I'm also a little like you. "Good enough" is good enough for me.

What the hell does it off, except 3 more grains than their 107...

I am sure the only reason they launched it was Hornady coming out with a 108 ELD-M.

can't see where it has significantly more BC than their 107, which isn't a good game bullet, but is a good
flat shooting 6mm bullet.

A ~ 9% increase in bc vs a ~ 3% increase in weight is insignificant to you?

There is a reason the 6mm 110 has remained one of the few items you have to chase to find in stock as the component market has softened post election.

Has anyone used the 110SMK on animals yet? What was the performance like?

They exhibit erratic performance in tissue. All of the pointed SMK's produce inconsistent (even in comparison to the generally erratic normal SMK) wounds.

The BC differential is more like 0.070 better in favour of the 110g. I think that's worth pursuing if it shoots well. With a 1-7 twist I should be optimised as well.

Thanks for the info Formid. I'll give them a whirl when they ship here; a little hard to get at present as Carl said above. I'm most likely to use them on foxes and dogs at distance so the terminal performance should suffice even if a little erratic.

having used the 115 grain Bergers over the years.. which has been readily available...

well yeah... not enough to float my boat...

running those out of a 1 in 7 twist barrel, with a 6mm Rem on a BDL Long Action..

Have been on the look out to try a box... but after 6 months, just bought another couple boxes of the Bergers

Agree about SMK on game at least my experience. I am putting together a 1 in 8 twist 6AI where should I stop on bullet weight? I was thinking 107s max but maybe not the 110s. It should run the 105-107 easily to 3200 fps with R26 or that's what I'm hoping for.

Can't hurt to try the 110 grainers.

I don't understand why more people don't shoot the 115 dtac. For the accuracy/consistency, bc, and price it sure seems tough to beat.
