We have been getting a lot of varmint pictures this summer and I am going to try to varmint hunt some with my 250-3000 and .22hp. Do any of you predator hunt with your 99's?

That's exciting! Did you have your camera baited, or just get lucky capturing that kill moment in the first photo?

22HP was built for varmints..and tigers of course.

250-3000 with 75g pills...well, kills

I used to hunt fox with my 99 in 300 Sav with 170gr cast bullets, killed a few coyotes with one in 25-35. One of my goto coyote guns is an O/U combo gun in 12ga/22 Sav HP. Buffalo arms makes .228 bullets from 45-70gr, I shoot the 55gr out of mine and it is sub MOA to 300 yards.

I did run into a guy at the range that had built a heavy barrel 99 in 22-250.

I always thought that Sav should have brought out the 99 in 219 Zipper to make use of the 224 bullets. It would have been an ideal predator hunting rig and easy on fur if you wanted it to be.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

The squirrels have gotten pretty use to going out to that feeder and I knew it was just a matter of time before I got a picture of a bobcat chasing one. This is another pic I got 2 weeks ago but not near as good.

never hunted predators intentionally with it but have several coyote pelts by my 250-3000. they each made the mistake of being inside 300 yards of the house.

Yes. It's been a passion of mine to hunt predators with lever guns. Started with a Browning BLR in 223, then had others like a Marlin 219 Zipper, but didn't like a hammer. tried two or three 99's in 22-250 but never warmed up to the 99C, so finally last year built a 22-250 the way I wanted it. It's only taken 30 years.

I would love to have had a factory 99 in 219 Zipper, or better yet 225 WInchester. That would be quite the rig.

I have a couple of part guns that were built for shooting varmints:

A heavy barrel 250-3000 made from the following parts; 99EG action, 99CD wood, and a recycled Ruger 77V 25-06 take-off barrel.

A heavy barrel 243 made from the following parts: 99E action, 99CD wood, and a recycled Remington 700 VL take-off barrel.

A 220 Swift that is a 99R rebarreled by Creighton Audette sometime in the 1950's.

Mouth call and e-calls work very well if you know how to use them. I would say that 95% of coyote hunting is in stand selection and management, sounds have little to do with calling. Most will come in with any sound from a vole squeak to coyote howls, the hard part come in getting them to come in to where you can see and shoot them without being busted (seen, heard or smelled).
