Ordered some of these cheap from Midway. Anybody use em on anything?

I've put about a hundred through my Henry just working up loads and shooting paper.

Hope to poke a deer or pig with one this fall.

At circa 30 cents each you can hardly go wrong...even if you just use them for practice!

Did not see much expansion on deer if no bones were hit, if that's an issue for you....it's already 45. LOL

Kills'em dead I'm trying the 300 gr Combined Technologies black bullet, which is pretty close to the NBT.

For monos, the 250 TSX is a good one, can be pushed to 2,550 fps in a Marlin (Barnes load).

I generally run 300's at around 1,850 or so. Faster loads kick more, don't seem to kill'em any deader. Faster may do better at longer range. I have other round for that.

For what it's worth, I emailed Barnes and asked them the lowest velocity at which the 300 would expand reliably. They told me 1150.

I've not used Barnes 300's, they should be deadly on tough critters.

C&C 300's in a .45-70 are pretty good, not sure the 300 Barnes would add much.

The 250 TSX is lighter, can be pushed to 2,550 fps (Barnes Marlin load), is a proven killer. Due to less than optimal B.C.'s it's not an ideal LR bullet, although I've shot'em at 300 yds out of my 30" Browning BPCR primitive weapon. Fitted with a VX-3 3.5-10x40 CDS, calibrated for that load, it's really not that primitive. It'll shoot around 4-5" at 300 out of the Badger barrel, drops pretty fast beyond that.

With my bum shoulder being as bad as it is, I should probably try the 250, but at a bit more of a sedate pace.

Yeah, you could run them at 1,800 fps or so and they'd whack hogs and deer with authority.

2,500 fps helps at 300 yds, still travels in an arc with a number of CDS clicks. It about used the one turn CDS to get there. I'm guessing 325 would max out the CDS.

1,800 fps will kill stuff just as dead at 150 or so, may fall out of the sky before it gets to 300...

The gaping HP looks like the wrong end of an ashtray. It opens very well, blows a big hole, will kick less than a 300, for sure. I haven't tried the 250 at slower speeds. Now, you've got me thinking...

Right now, I working with Speer Idaho Territory 405 gr. cast over RL-7 at around 1,600 fps. Fairly good out to 175 yds, 11" drop with 100 yd. zero, 1.3" high at 50. Those should whallop a WT or hog.

I'll have to see how they shoot in my mircrogroove Marlin. Sometimes lead bullets don't do well with Microgroove. We'll see. I may have to load some 250 TSX at around 2,000, although Barnes starting load is 2,200 or so.

My little 45-70 530 gr paper patch load at a measly 1245 will be along shortly.
