Buds had it for $544 without cash discount, and Marlin had the $100 rebate. FFL was $11. Got the GBL, which is 18.5 and pistol grip. I think pistol grip is a natural grip. Others like the straight, say it handles faster.

First laminate gun. Like the idea in theory. Wood feels dry, to much grain appearance. Can feel a line in it. Not sure if you can sand laminate or if it is worth it. Normally not caressing my rifle stock. My 1894 is nothing special to look at.

I do like the edges are rounded over on the ejection port. I sliced my hand good on my 1894 cleaning it.

Not as smooth as 1894, but I think that may be because of mass, it is stouter gun. Cycled it about 400 times, to work on it. Made up some dummy rounds, cycled 50 times or so. Only problem was upside down, and that was stoping and going. Being that it is unsupported, I don't think it is an issue. shooting posistion and vertical, fine, going slow and fast.

Going to start with Reloader 7 and Hornady 350 interlocks. Going to load to around 1600. See how it does and feels.Going to sight it in at 75 yards, according Spot On, that should be pretty flat, with only 1.75 drop at 100 yards. Usually hunting around 40 yards or less.

Need to get loading trays, does not fit 44 mag trays.

When I saw those dummy rounds loaded up I got to say, damn these are big. You think 30-06 is longer, so no big deal.

Got a Leupold VX2 2-7 with hold over dots, that will go on it. I was thinking VX3i 1.5-5 someday. Warnce steel mounts and Leupold low profile QRW. Not on yet.

So far, after Remington retooled the Marlin line couple years ago, it seems they are past the problems the were having. Bough it wasn't all the line. There were quality control and worker problems. Buggered screws.

7.5 lb trigger pull. Not going to screw with that until after warranty is up. No creep, just heavy, for todays standards.

I bought these. Only use every other hole as they place the case mouths a little too close together when using every hole for my liking. I ordered 2 but need 2 more since I am only using them to half capacity.

YMMV.

That would be nice, a different color. I was goign to order some Frankfort. I like them better than the MTM that has two calibers per side, bulkier, but less to store.

38g of reloader 7, between trapdoor and Marlin, around 1600 fps, was nothing. Shooting in a t-shirt. Less than a 30-06. They are right you can load this thing mild to wild. Going to add some more.

42 still nothing, granted 46.5 is max. People talk about how it will kill you. These loads I would shoot all day for fun. Usually 30-06 I will put on a sweatshirt or vest, since my old ones have plastic pad. But probably kicks less.

A simple trigger job is to put a wild west trigger on it. It seriously makes it feel like a target gun. Simple installation.

I like the pistol grip on a lever as well; they do feel more natural and if you go big on loads, it helps to hold rifle. Mine are all Win 71s of various wildcat configurations. Great thing about reloading is that you can load the big boys down--a 458 Win Mag (not too bad as it is) and the aweful kicking 378 Weatherby can be loaded down to 45-70 levels. Wow, 7.5 lbs--ya, I agree with KenMI, go with Wild West--cheapest option for good trigger--they take forever on a custom rifle but that is another story. m

Calculator was rigth. 3/4ish high at 50, on at 75. Which will put around 1.5 low at 100. Haven't tested it yet. Nice thing is 38-45 grains POI was the same, at 50 yards. Maybe with hig speed rounds at such close ranges it would be too. But sight in with powder puff 1500 FPS, hunting around 1700. Which is over kill probably.

You got to check screws though. They come loose. Put some loctite on them. I don't typically do that, but it opened up while shooting.

What size Lyman tray did you order? I am collecting reloading stuff for my 45-70 and see that Lyman is listing a lot of calibers. I hope to pick the right tray the first time. And hopefully the 444Marlin case fits in the same Lyman tray for 45-70?

Thanks.

I load 45gr of RL7 behind those 350gr .458 Hornady FNs. They chrono at 1750fps out of my Marlin's 22" barrel. You should be down around 1600fps with your shorter barrel. That load is consistently very accurate for me! And just for fun, load up some 405gr cast RNFP in front of 12gr of Unique. They run just over 1000fps out of my gun, and you can shoot them all day!
