Picked up a Model 57, decent shape, however it's missing aperture on the Lyman reciever sight. Guess it has the desirable front flip up sight, and the original fabric loop sling. Anyone have a extra aperture? This model shoots .22lr only, if anyone has a like model let me know your opinion/experience. Thanks..........buntingmiester

You found a desirable Winchester 22 rifle. I have 2 and each is accurate with open sights and old eyes. One has the front sight Lyman 5B combination sight with the ivory bead. These came with a Winchester marked magazine, marked on the floor plate. If it has just a W stamped, its aftermarket. The sling, if original, is valuable all by itself. How is that marked? If you remove the the action from the stock you will find a two digit year stamp on the bottom of the bbl near the receiver. Made from 1926 to 1936, give or take. The receiver sight should be the Lyman 42W.

steve99, thanks for the reply. My Mo. 57 has the front sight you describe also a rear flip up barrel sight. It is missing the aperture and attaching sliding bar to the Lyman 42w reciever sight, although i am ordering 3 apertures from Apertures n More (.095/.050/.040 ) , still need to find the sliding bar they attach to. The fabric sling is a little worn at the forward sling swivel, but serviseable, buckles/keepers say "NOBUCL", and appear to be brass. Underside of the barrel is stamped "27" ( date of man. ) and 217 ( bore dia.), normal .22lr bore is usually .219, so .217 is a bit tighter, should group accordingly. Magazine is stamped Winchester .22lr, and the barrel is stamped .22 lr, so no shooting shorts/longs. Breech is coned, and in great shape. .......Best regards, buntingmiester
