SECRETARY ZINKE PROCLAIMS AUGUST NATIONAL SHOOTING SPORTS MONTH … During the final week of National Shooting Sports Month, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke signed a proclamation declaring August National Shooting Sports Month. The month celebrates the shooting sports and reminds the public that shooting is a safe, fun activity enjoyed by millions of Americans.

NSSF OFFERS ASSISTANCE TO MEMBERS AFFECTED BY HURRICANE HARVEY … NSSF is making available disaster relief funds to help its members whose businesses have been impacted by the ongoing destruction wrought by Hurricane Harvey. The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute and NSSF also remind those affected to not attempt to salvage or use submerged ammunition.

- Eleven Republican Attorneys General filed a "friends of the court" brief at the federal appellate level against an attempt by 14 other anti-gun attorneys general to reverse a settlement in a class action suit against Remington Arms over allegedly defective rifle triggers. NSSF worked with Remington to encourage the action.
- The Wisconsin Assembly Committee on Natural Resources and Sporting Heritage has passed Assembly Bill 455, making significant improvements to the state's hunting mentorship program. NSSF supports this legislation and thanks those who responded to legislative alerts.
- Comments are being accepted on proposed California "Ammunition Vendor Licensing" regulations at a public hearing Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Resources Building Auditorium (1416 9th Street, Sacramento) or in writing until 5 p.m. that day.
- Two of Seattle's city council candidates have a novel idea for the failed gun tax. They want to double it. We'd love to say this is a spoof, but no, they're serious.

- The Scholastic Clay Target Program had another successful Junior Olympic Development Camp last month at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, with 24 athletes from 16 states attending.
- The 2017 SCTP National College Championship is slated for Oct. 27 to 29 at the Cardinal Center Campground and Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio.
- Wildfires are raging throughout the West. NSSF reminds hunters and shooters to be mindful of regulations and take precautions to avoid being the cause of a wildfire.
- National Public Lands Day is Saturday, Sept. 30, and brings together volunteers to help maintain and restore America's treasured places.
