Just picked up a large lot of various powders from a friend.

All was properly stored by him and his father... about 1/2 of what I got, he inherited at his father's passing.

In his father's 1/2 are eight unopened #1 can of H 570... and #1 that has been opened (smell and visual it G2G on the opened one).

Question:

Anyone have any favorite Pet loads?

.300 WM and above probably...

Thanks in advance.

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

Cash,
In the in the late 60s through the mid/ late '70s, H570 was THE powder for use in the 7mm x 300WBY and especially the .30-378 WBY (long before it was commercially chambered by Weatherby). These rifles were pioneered by the gunsmith Howard Wolfe. They were heavy long barreled (30-36") benchrest rifles used for long range hunting and 1000 yd. shooting. H570 provided the best velocity attainable at the time in those calibers. The powder burned 'dirty'. No load recommendations as every rifle of this type is a law unto its self. This powder brought some ridiculous prices "back in the day" and eventually the supply simply dried-up. Just a little history!

Thanks...

Burn rate chart has it between IMR 7828 and RL 22

http://www.gswagner.com/bigreloading/components/powderburnrate.html

I have "read" that H 870 data is very close.

Basically, I have #8.5 of free powder to play with (the rest of the lot more than made this batch free).

History is good... just because something is "New and Improved" doesn't mean it is "Better and Bestest"
