Pardon my ignorance but would one of these be a good deal @ $950 if you were wanting a standard A2 configuration?

I don't know, but I think the A2 has a fixed carry handle.

The flat-top with detachable carry handle puts it in the A3 or A4 category, I believe.

Yes it is, I paid 1149 for my Colt a4. They told me the FN is a little more expensive.

In the ad from Flave's link:

PRIMARY FEATURES
Semi-automatic only

A2-style front sight, removable carrying handle with rear sight

I'm not up on the nomenclature really.

But just want this type of configuration.

Just before MAGA. That and the Colt a4 was hard to find, I guess they don't crank out as many.

Dave,

Yes, FN builds good AR's. For an old style, no BS A2 style rig I don't think you can do better than an FN.

I'm pretty sure FN builds all of the Military AR's now. Good as a Colt or better IMO.

That rifle for $950, scoped, could be a beautiful thing.

I don't think you could go wrong on it. I noticed it's an HBAR. I've got a 20" HBAR frankenbuild upper. A little weighty, but not that bad. Really nice to shoot..

I don't know, a chrome lined HBAR? Carry the weight for less than stellar accuracy. I'd prefer the gov't profile but it all depends on your use I guess.

This one does not feel like an HBAR. I could pop the handguards and see I guess.

I just want it for shooting offhand with my son. I think my brother just gave $1,150 for an A4 and that's what I wanted. But if the FN is comparable I may as well get this one.

Thanks again.

If I wanted that type of configuration I would buy this FN, I don't think you can go wrong with the gun.

That extra weight of the HBAR will be great for offhand shooting. For me anyway, I like the steadying effect.
