My friend Travis decided last year he wanted to go on a dall sheep hunt. Shortly after that Smokepole put up a terrific post recounting his dall sheep hunt in Alaska. After dialoguing back and for with Smokepole my buddy decided to book a hunt with the same outfitter Smokepole booked his hunt with. We had a great trip and my friend got a nice ram. Thanks so much Smokepole for your patience and time in answering all my questions!

Our guide on the trip was a great Kiwi who did an excellent job. On the pack out we crossed paths with Tanner, who posts here on the forum some great adventures of his own.

My friend put together a video of the hunt if anyone is interested: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4p8msa5TCvw

Thanks again Smokepole!

Wow Levi, great video!! Thanks for posting that, it brought back some great memories. When you shot the footage of Travis standing up on the ridge with the rifle in his hand after the shot, I could see the spot where I got my ram in the background, that was really cool. That spot is permanently burned into my memory.

Thanks again!

That was a great video!! My legs burned watching y'all climb those peaks. Haha. Just because I'm curious, how long was that shot on that sheep? It looked like a poke and the wind sounded like it was whipping pretty good! Great job all the way around, congrats!

Thanks for the kind comments, It was definetly the most physical hunt I had ever been on. The shot was approximately 330 yards. When Travis took the shot I don't recall the wind blowing much, but it definetly was blowing just up the hill on the ridge line.

One of the added bonuses of hunting Alaska, that initially didn't occur to me, was the option of finishing a hunt early and then going fishing. We booked the sheep hunt for 12 days, but finished in 7. This allowed time to go to Homer, AK for a couple of days of fishing. We each brought back 40 pounds of seafood, which made us heroes with our spouses. The last couple of years we hunted in Mid-Asia, and though they were succesful hunts, there was no other sporting opportunities when the hunts ended early. Alaska is a unique and special place indeed.
