Nice job convincing the bastard

Dats fuggin' COOL!

Thanks fellas! Someone asked about details. Took him off the Hart Mountain Refuge. I had the nonresident tag and there were 2 resident. Just got a message from the 3rd hunter that he got his ram, hopefully he posts a few pics as he's a member here. My hunt ended opening day. Found the ram earlier in the week, lost him for a couple days then found him again on the afternoon before I could shoot. Went up in the morning but took half the day to find him then a few more hours to facilitate a stalk. He finally stepped out in a good spot to shoot and I anchored him. The pack out in the dark was brutal, steep, loose and slow, good thing my brother was with to carry all the meat. grin Saw lots of sheep, antelope and a few deer. Bio rough scored him at 161. Was an amazing experience!

Neat story. As you know now, I got mine Friday 8/8/17 at 3:45 PM. Way up on top in between where the other two were shot. About half a mile South of where the other resident hunter got his but much higher. We might well have killed a sheep earlier but the haze from a bunch of wildfires often made spotting impossible.

We had spotted them for a couple of days and timed their moves. They were pretty regular and followed the 10 to 4 pattern my guide referred to. One of them appeared to be "No. 11" from Nates group. He had joined a somewhat older sheep we hadn't seen before. "No. 11" was very nervous and did most of the guarding.

When we completed the stalk they were where they were supposed to be - 30 yards or so below a face we called "the wall" and about 110 yds away. The angle wasn't good so we worked up the rimrock and closed to 80 yards where we decided to shoot.. We set my rifle on my pack and pushed it toward them on a rim. We advanced it three times as a rock edge was blocking me off the older ram. Then I got my '06 aimed at it. The ram I wanted was feeding, facing directly away from us. The younger "No.11" ram was looking directly at what he could see of me and acting very nervous, on the third push he started to turn and go down hill. The bigger ram started to turn to follow and when he exposed his neck and shoulder I shot him. Bang flop, four feet in the air, .30-06 180gr NPT, 57 Gr H-4350, Kimber 84L Montana, 2.5-8x36 Leupold.

ODFW biologist rough scored him at 160 1/8 and 6.5 years old.

Much thanks to my guide, Chuck Messner and his friend Randy for hellping this old [70], fat, diabetic with a bad knee get a sheep on his one chance at it.

For me, the most amazing part of the hunting trip was watching the other resident hunter stalk his sheep relatively close to camp after wounding it higher up.
We scanned and found the GMRS frequency they were using and sat back and watched and listened to an incredible show.

The wounded sheep was in with 11 other rams in a group and they were referring to it as "12". It had hidden itself in a rock structure and his spotters could see it. The shooter could not. He spent several hours out in the sun and only finished it after closing and used three more shots.

During the time the hunter waited, "No. 11" tried to lead the others away but they returned to 12's location. "No.11" went up high on a rimrock about 1/4 mile South and watched for hours then disappeared.

I didn't get to see Ryoushi's effort as he worked South of us. I really enjoyed meeting him though.

I got a few pics, but I only know how to e-mail them. If you want to see them send me a PM and an e-mail.

Gary

Congratulations Gary! Way to stick with it and get the job done. 3 for 3 out there and all good rams! Send me some pics, my email is in the last PM I sent you.

Two things.

1. Why is there a puddle on the floor underneath her chair?
2. Do we really want to know what it is?

I'm thinking that would be a fairly stout limb and pretty safe to crawl out on.

The puddle is a mystery.

There's bottle of water in the background.

Yeah. I know. It's gay to see something else besides the boobs.

Whatever. grin
