Aww man! You didn't have to paint that picture.

Well, guys who are satisfied using .223s.....

are accustomed to using miniscule 'equipment'. Their wives say, "it's okay, honey".

I thought I heard banjos playing in the distance the last time I was near a 270 in the woods. I just got chills.

Poobs, Jerry!

Old game warden who was stationed down in the area of south Texas where we hunt, his "go to" nilgai rifle was a Ruger #1 in .220 Swift. He was from up here in this area and I knew him long before he became a warden. I miss him.

I bet some here on the 'fire who hunt down there knew him too!

K W -

I know the 22s kill deer reliably. It's just that for "YEARS" it was against the law to hunt deer with anty caliber smaller than .24
Back then the only bullets for the 223s were varmint bullets and were unreliable performers.

With that 'concrete' foundation and poor performance from larger cal. c/c bullets it's HARD for me
to have enuff confidence to TRY 223s today.

As to my retorts to GWE, that's JUST for fun.

Knew a game warden here who favored the .220 swift for Bison.

Frankly Id use my 223AI on an upcoming nilgai hunt if I could find an outfitter who would let me!

Jerry! Me too! All my responses are in fun! LOL! Just slinging stuff.

To know me is to,,,,, ahhhh,,,,,, appreciate the .30 Govt 1906!

I have a .223 somewhere. But I can't remember where I stuck the ammunition for it! Like I posted earlier, every rifle I own and hunt with is obsolete! Like me!

You sound.....uhhh, I know,....like me.

I have an 06 ( Rem Model Six) that will never leave my possession as long as I live.

I have newer acquisitions but my newest production rifle is a 2003, Tikka T 3, then it's a 1995 Rem 700, and the list
drops back into the 90s and earlier.

Among them are a 6.5x55 and a 284 W...... you get my drift ??

IMO just because something is new or newer doesn't make it better.
The 30 Govt. 1906 has been doing yeomen service since inception and continues today.

Jerry

ps: I have a M 70 Black Shadow and I don't know its yr. of manufacture ??

Holy chit has this gone south. I have to agree with Jerry. That was some of the funniest sarcastic humor I've seen here yet.

Hello. My name is Otter6,and I am an 06 owner. At times more than one.

I'm Bob---I also use a 30/06 & to make things worse I use cheap factory ammo from Walmart. Where do I turn in my "loonie" card. Can I send it in after my hog hunt this weekend? I'm headed to Childress & do a little hog hunting in the Red River Valley.

Hell, Bob, I got a confession to make, too. I bought a rifle that I wanted, in spite of it being chambered for the 30-06. I know it will work, and I keep hearing how handy it is that you can buy factory ammunition for it anywhere, so I think even though I have dies for it, I'll shoot factory ammo, and let the chips fall where they may.

By the way, good luck in your upcoming hog hunt!
