WHAT TO DO WITH FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION AFFECTED BY FLOOD WATERS … Can firearms and ammunition submerged by flood waters in storm-wracked areas be salvaged and safely used? - The August 2017 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 1,021,227 is a decrease of 11.3 percent compared to the August 2016 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,151,679. Log in to learn more.
- NSSF commissions a quarterly Hunting License Sales Index Report, which provides an unusually early preview of hunting license sales data. Log in to the NSSF online store to access the 2017 Q1-Q2 report.

- Two bills affecting firearms retailers are headed to California Gov. Jerry Brown. SB 464 creates government standards for retailers to secure firearms when closed. AB 1525 adds to packaging and literature warnings. Residents should urge Gov. Brown to veto these bills.
- The California Assembly Appropriations Committee halted SB 497, which would have prohibited purchase of more than one long gun in a 30-day period. Additionally, Senate Appropriations "held" AB 736, effectively killing what would have been more penalties or fines for firearms retailers.
- Sacramento, California, has pledged $1.5 million to pay 50 known gang members suspected of committing the majority of violent crimes, including those with firearms, to not commit crimes.

- Released last week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's latest five-year report shows that 101.6 million Americans participated in wildlife-related activities in 2016.
- Julie Golob, shooting for Team Safariland, earned the Classic Division crown at the 2017 IPSC Handgun World Shoot XVIII in Châteauroux, France.
- USA Shooting's Dania Vizzi captured the world women's skeet championship at the International Shooting Sports Federation Championships.
- The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation recently announced that the 2017 SCTP National College Championship will be held Oct. 27-29, 2017, at the Cardinal Center Campground and Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio.
- National Hunting and Fishing Day is Saturday, Sept. 23. Pledge to take someone hunting, shooting or fishing and you'll be eligible to win some amazing prizes.
