I'm sure it's been posted and dissected here already but I'm not finding it. Looking for some load data for the 280AI using RL26. I will be using 160 grain bullets and up with it. Don't have quickload yet but I have a 24" 1:9.5 barrel with a COAL of 3.350".

I'm using 62.0 grains with the 168-grain Nosler ABLR, with Nosler brass and CCI 200 primers. Velocity averages around 2935 fps from a 22" barrel.

Thanks. Is that a max load for your rifle? 2935 is good speed for that weight and barrel length.

MD - did you happen to try any 175/180 grainers? I have parts on order for a 280ai, watching this thread with interest. Thanks.

I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

I would start with magnum primers as R26 with it's progressive burn rate acts more like a ball powder than a stick type. The extra bump can reduce extreme spread and deviation. This can improve accuracy.

I have been working on some loads with RL 25 in my 280AI and have found better accuracy with a magnum primer. Not sure how 25 behaves compared to 26 but my charges are over 60 grains and magnum primers seem to help IME when that threshold has been met. So not sure if it's the powder or the charge weight.
