I'm a huge Grendel/.264 LBC fan. Decided to try the 6.8 SPC for the first time, picked up a ARP (AR Performance) 6.8 SPC scout profile barrel. Threw it all together the other morning and hit the range to break the barrel in. Shot several of the Hornady factory ammo offerings at 300 yards for the break in. I'm waiting on the Redding bushing dies to be delivered before I can handload. I had the furniture Cerakoted in Barret Brown heat cure. 300 yards with the factory Hornady 120 SST loads. 300 yards with the Hornady factory Match 110gr BTHP load. Shows some real promise, looking forward to handload if for it. Ordered in another ARP barrel and I started assembling the upper this evening. This barrel is a 16" SIX5. Which is the 6.8 SPC necked down to 6.5! Way cool, I can use the same set of dies just a different bushing.

nice upper! I have wanted to kill a deer with the 6.8 SST load from Hornady but my gun is zeroed for 95 TTSX now, I was not happy with the 85TSX it kills fine but more like a hole poker at spc speeds.

Sweet rig Smack. The 6.8 is my primary deer cart right now with the 120SST. nice upper! I have wanted to kill a deer with the 6.8 SST load from Hornady but my gun is zeroed for 95 TTSX now, I was not happy with the 85TSX it kills fine but more like a hole poker at spc speeds. The 120SST is wicked Jimmy. Even on the 238lb and 265lb bucks I killed last year, I was very impressed with the SST. I hate SSTs at higher MVs, but they seem to be perfect at the lower MV of the 6.8(I'm running them at 2590). My bud tried to sway me to the 95TTSX, but I can't see the need right now. I did try the 95s and with 10X they are darn good shooters in my 18" ARP. May have to give them a shot when I run out of SSTs(It'll be a while )

Jimmy,
I'm running the factory loads right now. I bought 20 boxes of them and they shoot good, so that's what I'm hunting with. I've also ran the 120 SST as a component with several different powders. They accuracy was good with several loads, but the MV didn't match the factory loads. The factory was faster and still shot .75-1.25, so I intend to burn them up first. Another plus is the factory load speed puts the POI right at the top of the post at 300 on 9x in the Leupold 3-9 that gun is wearing.
18" ARP w/ 120SST(Obviously work up to these): 26.7g R10X, Hdy case, CCI #41, 2.295" oal: MV-2541avg, .78 & .87" @100 28.5 Benchmark, SSA case, CCI #41, 2.295" oal: MV 2495avg, .87" @100 30.0 8208, SSA case, CCI #41, 2.295" oal: MV 2569avg, 1.4" @100 30.0 TAC, SSA case, CCI #41, 2.295" oal: MV 2526avg, .98" @100 27.5 AA2200, SSA case, CCI #41, 2.295" oal: MV 2557avg, 1.0" @100
Those are the results of the 4 shot groups from my notes from the last range session with them. the 10X load has been consistent with the 120SST the few times I've tried it, so I'd be cool with hunting it as is. I've been tinkering with 130grn SPs as well, but not getting the same accuracy as the 120SST or 95TTSX. I've about 2500 or so of the 130s on hand though, so need to keep fooling with them to find a good plinking and hog load. Funny thing is speed is better than the 120s due to a diff bullet design that robs less capacity.
Have a good one,
loder

Fired some factory stuff at 200 yards today and a handload at 300 yards. The factory stuff was Hornady 120 SST & SSA 110gr Nosler Accubonds The handload was with the Sierra 110gr Pro Hunter over H335. 300 yards with the Sierra 110gr Pro Hunter. First load I tried with the bullet. It's holding half MOA at 200 with the factory Hornady 120 SST and the SSA 110gr Accubond.

Now I just need to decide which bullet I want to shoot Mule deer with.
120 SST @ 2460 FPS 110gr Accubond @ 2700 FPS 110gr Sierra Pro Hunter @ 2800 FPS
I'm leaning towards the Accubond.

I agree accubomb, faster and tougher, I shot an 8 point a bit low in the chest with a 180 ab out of a 300 wsm, it killed him just like any other bullet.

Looking good Smack. I vote ABs as well. I'm going with the SSTs again as I still have 12 boxes or so and that's what mine is zeroed with right now. I checked zero Friday morn and this was close enough:

My 18" ARP shoots the 110PH pretty good with 335, but I read quite a few post stating they were poor penetrators so I've never tried them on game.

I’m getting ready to build my second 6.8 upper w/that ARP scout profile bbl. just gotta true up a receiver, and they’ll flat shoot. The first one was built for a buddy, and the light weight was a surprise. It was a 1/2” upper with factory loads, and was 6#12oz w/ an aero mount and VXR 2-7 and empty mag.

My 6.8, with a 20 inch Bison barrel, shoots every weight bullet I've tried in it extremely well. I use nothing but H-322 powder and it works for every bullet I've tried. H-322 may be somewhat of an "old school" type powder, but since I have so much on hand, I'm going to use it.
