I could not leave this rifle in the pawnshop till Jan on payments. Posted about it on the gen forum. Think you marlin guys would like to see it . Just shot it 5 times down back fast as I could work the lever. It is a 64 ser#Z233xx 36G 30-30win (no actual G rollmark) Montgomery Ward marketed. 5930 made in 64 and 65 total before they became the glenfield 30,s in 66? From what i can gather on the internet. Not valueable but kinda rare i geuss. Gonna get a Williams prep for it and take off the rear sight slide a dove tail in the slot. Get it zeroed , it has reserved buck tag for it for rifle season for sure, the model 70 is gonna get lonely this fall at times. Gonna reblue it and do the wood proper in Jan, it has had a week of work on it .tore it down , punched the barrel no copper, did a quick truoil job on the wood (4 coats) I'm pleased with it for 164 bucks total.

The black foot prints from surface rust annoy the chit outta me , didn't want to steel wool too hard, carry wear under receiver, on lever and right behind the front sight from over the shoulder hand on barrel .90 % or better bore, no pitting interior and exterior , small dents in wood (steamable) good winter project in Jan. But this rifle is gonna kill a buck in Nov first. Got 15 rds of leverevolution ammo 160gr and gonna get another box soon. I ain't had a marlin since I was 17 yrs old growing up in maine, and when I seen this and looked for the right things then did a quick smart phone research on it in the pawnshop I knew I could not pass on it cause I would never see another.

Nice rifle. I have a 1950 336SC in .35 Rem. Like yours it has a little wear on it, but the action is butter smooth. I sometimes think I should have gotten a .30-30 instead since ammo is reliably available and dirt cheap. But I have enough factory ammo and components for reloading to last the rest of my days and then some.

i like the truoil finish. for the older marlins and remingtons i use a 50/50 black walnut/mahogany stain. i then use that pumice liquid that they sell with the kit to take the shine off of it.real light sanding too because i like to leave any little nooks and crannies to give it character.

I was contemplating buffing it down with steel wool and doing the stock wax route. Few little things like boogered up screws both tenon screws and the mag tube retention screw need replaced , Dremel some on that mag cap on the barrel contact areas of it. Might go full blown tard and look for a stock set, the only need is a receiver sight, all the other things mentioned are wants.

yOU MADE A GREAT SNAG. I have one and it's the most accurate Marlin I have ever owned. Shoots all bullets weights from 125 gr to 170 gr under one inch, I did free float the forearm and relieve the nose cap so it did not touch the barrel.

Seems like a uncomplicated project to do in the winter. Redo the wood , metal prep get it reblued, basically make it new looking again . Biggest thing on the list is getting a receiver sight for it asap, looking at the Williams 5d , the screw locking one , don't really need the click adjustable one . I'm pretty happy with this rifle , was looking for a 94 in .32. Never seen one of these 60,s 36g models, after doing a quick internet search and finding out a little about them . I realized with only a little under 6k being made in 2 yrs . I knew I would never see one again. Basically a 2yr run transition gun made by marlin Glenfield between the 336 and 30 series marketed to retail chain stores. I'm glad I got it I just need to get a peep on it and get it to the range and get it zeroed.

There are usually a few Williams FP and 5D receiver sights on eBay.

The bb gun drift adjustable blade ramp sight that is on it, aint gonna cut the mustard for me. Gonna go uptown tommorow to one of the better lgs and order a 5d.

Nice rifle. I picked up a Glenfield 30 about five years ago for 112.95 plus tax from a pawn shop. Then I turned around and spent more than that on presentation walnut for it. Your M-W version came with walnut.

My G30 is my favorite of four .30-30s. I put a 3X scope on mine. I have a '48 ADL that wears a Williams receiver sight. I like that one also. You are going to love that rifle.

Best wishes,

Jack

I have a 1960 336SC, and it shoots pretty well. Kills deer real dead, too. I use 150 PPs, they're cheap and everywhere, and the .30/30 is the only centerfire I don't load for. You will like it heaps, like I like mine.

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/gallery/80/full/54028.jpg i will never use a shoot andsee target again ..... 100yds cheatham range off bags and bench. 1st 2 shots right below the bull. Gave it some elevation and left windage next 3 shots high at the 1130 and 130 (pulled felt it)gave it it some down and next shot hit at 10 next to bull.didnt feel like chasing a zero anymore. Went back to original setting from 1st 2 shots and put 3 groups of 2 each and my last shot into the cluster right below the 1st 2 shots. Front sight fuzzy from 093 aperture kinda hard to determine center. Got a 050 on the way to crisp up front sight. Thinking of getting the fp sight with click adjustments, the 5d is good but slide and lock screw adjustments make it difficult to find that precise sweet spot. It will do for this yr, shoot it again mext week when i get the 050 on it. Hornady leverevolution 160gr ammo is good stuff.

[Linked Image] oct 6 with .093 peep 1st 2 shots below bull at 4 and 5 oclock from a cold clean bore @100yds. Did some elevation and windage playing around with 4 shots above the bull. Then went back to original setting and put 7 into a ragged hole. The front sight was blurry with .093 peep and hard to define center. [Linked Image] Earlier today .050 peep installed cold clean bore 2 shots @100yds. The front sight was perfectly crisp in the sight picture. Called it good after these 2 shots and left the range, went home cleaned the bore and put the rifle away till opening wknd of rifle season. Pretty friggin happy with rifle to say the least.

I would be also. Especially with a peep. I wish my eyes were good enough to shoot like that.

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

I got 25rds left of the same lot # from midsouth, I need to get 2 more boxes Monday of this lot# . Midsouth is 3 miles down the road. 3 full boxes should last me 4-5 yrs . Ain't gonna replace this 5d peep with a FP peep, things are good. Only should have to fire a couple of rounds to confirm zero with the gun from here on out each year. The gun shoots to poa with cold clean barrel , shooting that 1st pair on the Oct6 tgt same condition. Then I shot pairs and would boresnake between pairs. the barrel got ssomewhat seasoned and seemed to settle in low on the last 3 pairs and the last single shot. When I got the .050 aperture I wanted to see how close it was to the 1st pair cold clean barrel from Oct 6, the rifle basically repeated exactly the same only slightly higher with a much clearer and crisp front sight post . Don't know how many deer or whatever this rifle has killed, all I know is I need to kill one with it in November, my poor old model 70 probably ain't gonna get used this yr.
