I just got back from 5 days of grouse hunting and fishing on Sturgeon Lake. I did more hunting than fishing but my wife was catching them with sucker minnows. The people using fancy lures were getting skunked.
She caught a couple walleye off the dock using worms while fishing for crappies.

Walleyes ar walleyes except in certain areas where they call them pickerel.
Pickerel are actually another fish altogether.

Common names sometimes confuse folks like Stripers Striped Bass, Lionesides, Rockfish, just depends where one is in the country

Bask to your original question, I would do a search for Walleye fishing on youtube. I'm betting they will hve many methods and they all probably work when they are biting.

Richard,

We tow bottom bouncers with worm harnesses with pretty decent results.

It's been relatively warm so no fall turn over as yet. That being the case, walleyes should still be in their summer haunts. Find the food shelf and you'll find the walleyes. If you have 50 feet of water over one shoulder and 15 feet of water over the other that leads to a good sized food shelf that's a good place to start.

Once we have fall turnover some walleyes will move to pre-spawn locations that are near their actual spawning grounds. Another set of walleyes will go deep, 40 to 55 feet deep outside of their former food shelf locations. To reach these fish you'll need a heavy bottom bouncer with a leech or crawler harness following behind. I don't know what the walleyes are feeding on at that depth, I suspect it may be blood worms so a night crawler should work well. That's been the ticket for me to catch deep walleyes after the turnover.

We've been having luck pulling plugs on wind blown shores up shallow. 8-12 get out water Max. Many are suspended and hitting on silver and purple where I'm at. Had the best luck on flats and points and along drop offs

Went out on Erie yesterday. Found the fish at 110 to 120 ', right on the bottom.

Used worm harnesses for the most part, but picked up some with Renosky lures of various colors.

We usually limit out once or twice a week, and also pick up a lot of Steelheads. The steelheads we give to the Amish, they love 'em.

Walleye? Oh you mean pike right? No ? Pike is a northern, right? Or is that a Pickerel where some live. And then, there is the Sand Pike. No? Around here a walleye is a walleye for young guys cause that is what the hotshot pro guys call them. Old timers called them Pike, but the old timers are all gone now. Now, a Pike is a northern , sometimes. But a northern is still just a northern. But, a Pickerel is a Pickerel, like a Grass Pickerel. Now, a Sand Pike is whet the old timers called what we now days called a Sauger. No?

Hookem, way back fishing Wabigoon lake, when a local landed a walleye, they call it a pickerel. I try to go native, and blend in.

I fish for "walleye" on Erie, last weekend caught 32,,,9 keepers(over 22" for me). They were in 80' of water and 60-65' deep, drifted worm rigs with split harness and 1 oz weight...blue and silver they liked, with willow blades.

We were in the Pouch Point area of Lake Sakakawea in ND yesterday. We found the walleyes in 38' and caught them ripping a #9 Jigging Rap up about 2' and dropping it back to the bottom.

I fished Winnebago yesterday and had 7 fishing prime time( (9am to 1pm)
#4 crawfish shad raps off reef edges worked for me.
There is a big shad hatch going on right now and my buddy had 25 Perch and 5 Walleye this am.

Anyone close that needs more info let me know. I wish I could get out this week for Perch if I didn't have to work.

Fished six consecutive days last month on Lake Erie near Pa./ Ohio boarder with 4-5 guys. Trolled with dipsy divers & downriggers pulling mostly spoons and a few crankbaits, caught just over 200 walleye. Awesome year for walleye, limit out every trip and seldom fish past 11:00 am. Got a winter supply in the freezer. Going to be Friday nite fish fry pretty regular

I throw out slip bobbers with minnows and jig a jigging spoon or jigging rap. Spoons work better for me. Good luck
