For me, when I am away from home on a hunt, the 300 wm Howa ss in a McMillan sako classic gets to go every time. It shoots a 150 gr ttsx at 3300 fps into 3/4" for three and is easy to shoot. I can shoot about as far as I should before I have to worry about holdover, and the 150 gr ttsx hasn't had a problem punching through elk or aoudad at 350 yards.

My 300 Win mag is seeing more action this fall than previous hunting seasons; I'm going into areas with combo deer/elk.

.270. Covers the primary game hunted and plenty for elk when/if it happens.

I like my .270.. More and more it rides in the truck with me, but I love my .300.. On a serious big game hunt, I don't leave home without it..

223 for everything. I personally got tired of burning more than 25gr of powder per shot. If you end up with a raking shot on a big bull, aim for the nuts.

No doubt, the .270

The .300 is overkill on 2 out of 3

I have done a mixed bag hunt just like you are asking 3-4 times and took a .300 WBY on all of them. Obviously, more power than needed but was glad to have a gun I trusted (the most important part) for long, windy shots. Could I have taken a 270 and had equal results? Probably, but I don't own a 270 that I trust but my 300 worked to perfection.

I am going on a similar hunt in two weeks, plus with a bear tag in my pocket. I am going take a 300 for sure but a 257 WBY is tagging along because I have room, which will be used on some of them, if wanted.

Bottom line, take the gun you are most comfortable with.

I'm in a similar boat but a little diff.

I do have a 270 W I like/trust/& am comfortable using.

I also have a Black Shadow 300 WM that I like/trust & enjoy hunting it TOO.

I would take BOTH and maybe hunt BOTH.

So maybe I'm NO help to the ??

Both great calibers, there is a good chance you can shoot one of them best from field positions. Unless they have matching scopes, you may like one more than the other.
Sounds like it will be a good hunt.

Proof that nothing changes. Since we've already surpassed irrelevance, I'll add that I'm taking a 338 Fed shooting 180 Accubonds at ~2775 for Elk and Mulies.

270 because I'm too much of a puzzy to shoot a 300 Win.

.270 just because. There is literally nothing in NA that i wouldnt hunt with my .270. Second coice would be a 30.06, just because. However, since .270 and .300 were the choices.. >The 270 wins...See what I did there?
