You're going to have a good hunt. Take your time and breathe it all in. Doesn't get any nicer than September in the Cascades. Jealous here.

Still kinda leaning basing out of Miller Lake. A concern is proximity to Chemalt; that is one hillbilly little non-town there! I wonder if crime finds its way up to Miller? Hate to have rifles or optics stolen from my truck or tent while I was away.

Anyone ever hunt the area around Miller?

You never know for sure, but I would not expect trouble.

Miller is ok, I would be more inclined to base out of Summit lake. I would also bring a pickup full of Skeeter repellant! That's if summit lake is in the area you can hunt! Miller Lake area gets hit too hard from slants picking shrooms, this time of year!

Headed up! I'll be at Miller with my "large camp". SilverTundra, white wall tent, stop by if you are in the area! Will have cold beer. smile

Plan is to base there, and backpack into wherever based on sign and conditions.

Miller sucked ASS. Zero deer sign seen in 12 miles hiked, very smoky, and that campground has a serious tree-rodent problem. I could NOT keep them out of my wall tent. What I wouldn't have given for a pellet pistol.

Plan B. Packing in tomorrow from the west side into an area where I've seen deer while elk hunting.

Well, I hope this hunt went better for others than it did for me. The damn SMOKE, plus all the area closures, really screwed my plans.

Anybody have success?

On to blacktail! Been a few years since I really hunted blacktail. Psyched!
