I didn’t own a decent light weight bolt .22 so I went in search at the local pawn shops. Plan was to go look at a Rem 541-s that the owner said was clean over the phone. When I walked in the door I spied a svelte little mannlicher on the shelf. Turns out to be a fairly clean Anschutz 1418 mannlicher. Front sight and middle screw of the floor plate are missing along with some minor blue wear and light finish wear on the stock. For $750 after the governors cut it’s now mine.

So that said learn me up on scope mounts for the dovetail as this rifle isn’t drilled and tapped and I can’t see myself doing so. My thoughts are either a dedicated 11mm ring set, a 11mm to picatinny adapter or the BKL 11mm mount. Plan is probably a leupold 2.5-8 but I could be convinced to change my mind though I would want short and svelte for this application.

Any advise on mounts/rings is appreciated.

Oh and about that 541-s, I know less then little about them but this one has an engraved receiver and very nice wood, condition is high 90% of not better. They are asking $1300 but I know thy will sell it for $1000. It damn near came home with me.

Look at DIP products. They make a nice picatinny rail that will allow you a much wider selection of rings. It uses 6 or 8 Allen screws to push down on the receiver locking the rail tight. One lead BB dropped down into the hole before the Allen screw is started will keep the screw from marring your reciever.

Try Warne. IMHO a rail is not what you want (short and svelte) on your Anschutz mannlicher .22

I put Burris aluminum .22 rings on my Sav/Ansch 184 and 2-7X Leupold on it.
Worked great. 30 in lbs on the clamp screw and it stayed put.

I used Warne tip off rings on my Savage Anschutz 141M with a Nitrex 3-9 and had good results.

You might think about trying to find a set of Tasco World Class (steel - made in Australia) tip-off mounts. They are nice looking and well finished. I had a set on a 1416D at one point and had not complaints and they look really nice.

Congratulations on a very nice rifle at a good price.

For ring mounting you have several good options, as mentioned above, to choose from. For tip-off rings I like the Burris Signature medium rimfire rings. They come with both 11mm and 3/8th clamps; you'll need the 11mm for your 1418. They come with the self aligning plastic inserts that save your scope from being scratched or save lapping the rings. You can also get offset inserts for them if you have scope alignment issues. There is the Leupold medium rimfire 11mm rings but they don't have the inserts.

The Talley lightweight rings which screw directly into the receiver, although I don't think your 1418 comes drilled and tapped, are very popular with Anschutz afficionado's and they're available in a range of heights. The far more expensive S&K rings are very nice if you want to splash out. Personally I'm not a fan of Picatinny rails on a light sporter. However, they do enable you to have a lot of ring choices.

Talley steel (low) vertical split rings would work great on this rifle. Talley only has low and high rings for the Anschutz, lows should work with the 2.5 x 8 leupold.
