What is the latest with the caribou herd and hunting in Canada? I heard the numbers in the caribou herd in Quebec are way down and hunting is either limited or prohibited all together. What's going on? Are there any outfitters still in business up there? It used to be a big thing in Quebec. Are things getting better with the caribou situation up there? What's the latest?

Im on the west coast so I don't have any first hand knowledge, but I have heard that things are still not good. Doubtful they will get the herd numbers back up in our lifetime. If your interested in hunting caribou I would suggest a hunt in western Canada. The Yukon still has some great caribou hunting, as does the NWT.

in Canada Yukon is the only place where the caribou are not loosing so far ...

Population declines across the whole arctic in the last decade have been a disaster. Caribou hunting is not available to non residents any more in the NWT, Nunavut, and after this year Quebec. There are a few remaining huntable animals in Newfoundland, and the Yukon, and a very few in BC. Alaska seems have the only stable populations of caribou in North America.

I`m in a Leaf River camp right now waiting to get out.
12 of us in camp, and we all got our Bulls by the second day, including 2 bow kills and 2 Bulls that should qualify for B&C.
60 mph winds this morning. Calming down now. We should get out this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
We were scheduled to go out 2 days ago. Because I had booked my hotels and flight through Orbits, it cost me almost $1000 for cancellations and re-booking.
