Been rereading Shackleton's and Scott's Antarctic doings which are early 1900's stuff. Shackleton noted in several instances indications that glaciers they were traversing showed evidence of having subsided several hundred feet. I.e. They were seeing glacial erosion signs well above them on the adjacent mountain sides. His interpretations were that we were in a period of reduced precipitation or ice deposition at the south pole. I guess one could equally surmise that perhaps the mountains were rising. By our scales, maybe the present warming trend isn't a recent thing at all. At geologic scales, however, it's just been a second or two. Has happened before, and will happen again.
Jaguartx: Yes. Great graph and there appears to be a repeating pattern there.
