I have recently found a Cooper Rifle which has caught my attention and I would like some input on the value. Here I am in the midst of selling half my crap and I come across this. Anyway, here is what I know. First, it is in mint condition and looks to be brand new. It is a model 54. It has a stainless fluted barrel and a stainless action and a spiral fluted bolt. It has a BDL floor plate and sits in a synthetic black and red spiderweb stock with no venting on the forearm. Oh ya, it's a 260 Remington. I know all about the predicted death or dying nature of the 260. I don't care. I'm a fan. Anyway, I've tried to do some research on gun broker and various forums which, frankly, wasn't a lot of help. In trying to navigate Cooper's website, it isn't much help for identifying it exactly. So, if any of you can tell me from the information I provided which model, beyond 54, it is and what you speculate the value to be, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like an Excalibur model, I would say value should me about $1300-1500

The only thing that puzzles me is the floor plate I thought all 54's had single stack detachable mags.

$1500 would be a very good price. But I am also wondering about the floorplate, my 54 has a single stack magazine. I have seen a prototype of a BDL style floorplate for Coopers but to the best of my knowledge they are not available yet.
Personally I like the single stack magazine, it feeds very slick and has a good catch on it so there are no concerns about inadvertently releasing it.

Seems like a rifle that you seriously NEED!

I had one last fall for my Utah mule deer hunt, however it was in a 280AI. It was a fine and accurate rifle, but on the heavy side for mountain hunting.

I sold the rifle (for $1500) upon my return and went back to a couple of lightweights, a CLR/NULA in 7x57 and a RemingtonTI in 7-08..

The 54 action rifles weigh about a half-pound less than the 52 action rifles, which is what your 52 was built on.
Also the barrel contour of the 54 is slightly lighter and generally a couple of inches shorter than the 52's, it all adds up to a lighter easier carrying rifle than the 52.

I had a 52 in 7x57 and could never warm up to it because of the additional weight but I love my 54, the handling and carrying difference is like comparing a pick-up to a Corvette.

If you can nab it for $1500, I would do it in a heartbeat. I've never seen an all stainless Cooper go for that.

FWIW,

If you want it for $1,500 and plan to keep it for a spell, no problem. If you plan to turn it for a profit, I'd say $1,250.

I'd jump, and personally, I'd rather have a floor plate versus a detachable magazine.

At first blush, it could easily appear to be a hinged floorplate. Perhaps that's what is in play here?

I was wondering that myself. Cooper makes a very good DM. It's only real apology, being that it's a single stack.
