We sure have seen a bunch of "new and improved" (and sexy) stuff hit the racks in recent years..... and already become obsolete. Kind of hard not to stick with the steadfast and reliable one. Agreed. Marketing. That's all it is. The manufacturers hope to entice the uninitiated in purchasing the latest whizz-bang contraption, thereby increasing profits. In many cases these new-fangled cartridges/rifles fall flat, which is why I've never jumped on the short magnum, super magnum, death ray magnum, or any of the other nonsense bandwagons. I prefer to stick to the classics - tried and true, which get the job done. I find it interesting that many of the old European metric cartridges are finding renewed interest in America. 6.5x55, 7x57, 9.3x62, etc. What worked well then works well now.

Those 180's will just bounce off anything you shoot at. It's true, cause I read it on the internet.

You left out "ULTRA" magnum. Have no use for the short mags, but do like the Remington .338 and .375 RUM's.

It was about 60-70 fps faster than my 7mmDakota with a 160 gr NP. Never had any interest in the Lazzeroni family of cartridges.

Bought a new scope for one of mine today. It was sporting a Burris 4.5-14xAO now it will have a Nikon 3-9x. The 4.5-14x will go back to load development duty, where it will get used on a variety of rifles..

CRAP!! I completely forgot about this thread...and bought an '06.... As did I, in a Ruger 77ST. Couldn't be happier. As hard as it is to believe, everything one reads on the internet is not true.

Really contemplating a rework of the ol' Browning 1895 I have in 30/06. More traditional wood, cresent buttplate, and a Providence tool #21 Lyman sight copy.

I have this semi-custom .30-06 that started out as a stock Ruger 77. I added a 24" barrel and a few custom touches. Obsolete, but I like it. Bob

A good .30-06 makes everything else in your safe unnecessary.
