Was lucky and blessed enough to harvest this little beauty last week, thanks to my (poorly compensated) guides and newfound friends BobCape (Bob) and APDDSN0864 (Ed) and my road buddy Mannlicher (Sam), without whom none of which would have been possible.
Thanks to an invite from eh76, several antelope and at least one mule deer (last I heard) were harvested. Several whitetail had been spotted prior to our arrival, but the recent squatter's rights actions of a burly moutain lion spoiled the action in the nearby creek bottom.
The trip out and back was 5300+ miles and I am feeling my Wheaties, but would not have traded the experience for anything.
This approx. 120 lb doe was taken with a '56 Model 70 .30-06 Featherweight using 150 gr Federal Blue Box SP.
Best Wishes to all at camp: Keith, Sam, Woody, Jeremy, Bob, Ed, Doc, Bryan, Casey, Ryan, and Sheldon. Hope to see you all again in the future.
PS- our campsite had been thoughtfully appointed with some exquisite designer lawn furniture prior to our arrival.

Nicely done guys. Got to take my pre 64 270 fwt bear hunting for a couple days earlier this fall but nothing more planned til next spring. I am determined to be on a killing spree next year!
It's the McMillan Hunter's Edge. Like the forend and grip a lot for hunting, wish the comb were a little higher. Just picked up a second one for my pre 64 30-06 featherweight today.
Great pictures all! Been hammer the post oak thickets with a 95 in 35 WCF the last couple of weeks. So far one 3 point (should qualify for the dink award) and two hogs. Going out in the morning still after one of the big 8 or 10 points that is hanging around. Need to get Kaywoodie to help me with photo bucket for photos!

Nice '95! I had a friend growing up that his father had a '95 in that caliber. Congrats Postoak with the venison and the pork.

Still trying to get one of the nice bucks running around our place with th 95.
It's a 33 wcf. basically a 45-70 necked down to a 338 bullet..
Of all the 1886's I always thought those late era .33 WCF's were the bee's knees! Especially the TD models! Nice Rifle 1911!

This just in from Postoak Cowboy! Evidently he got serious this morning and drug out his old .300 H&H, built on an old Winchester M1917 receiver and barrel. Put together by old Austin gunsmith JF "Buster" Kreuz over 50 years ago.
I think he's happy with him!

My granddaughter (postoak cowboy's daughter) busted her first just about an hour ago with her model 88 in .308!

Gotta be proud of your Granddaughter there Bob!! Way to go, that smile says it all! I'm sure you and Grandma were smiling just as big. My granddaughter starts next year, thinking my 88 carbine in .243 is the ticket.

Pretty sure my winchesters are done for the 2017 season, only small game likely for the remainder.
Buddy was visiting in June and we went out to get some meat/feeder hogs. It was my first ever hog hunt...next time will be spot and stock as shooting them over a feeder was kinda too unclimatic for my taste. Meat was delicious though, loved me some pulled pork sandwiches from the crockpot. Rifle was a 1955 Fwt 30-06, all original with a 180 Interlock, dropped on the spot with a neck shot.
Last saturday I took a nice 8-pt while hunting in my old stomping grounds of Central Pa. We were pushing a swamp and I was a stander. This guy came out, then started running the creek I was over looking. Shot him as he was quartering away running, 110 TTSX through the backbone exit through the far ribcage after tearing through the lungs. Rifle was a SC Fwt 270 in an edge Fwt pattern.

But this is my favorite of the year. "You really want to go down there? I can get out fairly easy with four legs and youth on my side. You I'm not so sure. Up to you Bud."
My old pal, Gunner500, wanted me to post these pics of critters he shot this past safari with. Pre64 Model 70 in .375 H &H. I will let him explain his pics, because I would make up some pretty big stories about em. Better he tell!

Very cool gunner, hope to do a similar PG hunt myself someday.
Love the Mdl 12 battue, I normally see beautiful SxS in your ruffed pics, good to see the pumps get a workout!
Thanks Tom, nice pig you have in the above post too, beware, you go to Africa once, you're bit, hard, I just finished trip number two since the fall of 2015.
Gunner, did you do a write up on your trip to Africa? I'd love to hear about it.
I haven't done a write up yet BSA, that bullet I sent you came from that Nyala Bull in the last photo.
This hunt was the hardest thing I've had to do in my life so far, two months before the hunt leave date I managed to tear my right shoulder rotator cuff in three places.
No more working out or cardio, I was pounding a prescribed 1800 mgs if ibuprofen daily and eating every carb [fiber] in sight, I was swol up like a fat pup off mamas milk bag on that hunt, it didn't and wasn't gonna stop me, I went ahead with the hunt against two Dr's orders, all animals were hit hard and died quick.
The giant Cape Eland and Sable Bulls aren't pictured, I busted them with 750 grain bullets from my 50-90 Sharps with black powder ;]

Gosh Gunner, blued steel, walnut stock and mounting a Leupold?!? It's a wonder you could kill anything!! Great job!!
LOL, Thanks TMitch, another very funny thing about this hunt was having only twenty 375 cal. 275 gr Bitterroot Bonded Core bullets to work with, BSA sent me a bag of 20, I worked up a load [2755 fps] and zeroed the rifle, had the scope get fuzzy, Leupold sent me a new replacement, was able to re-zero the new scope, take one practice shot once in Africa, kill four animals and still have one loaded round left.
Outstanding work, fellas! Hadn't checked this thread in a while. Am home now recovering from replacement of congenital aortic valve. Got me a pig or cow valve now.
But, I'll be back out at 'em asap.

I took a rescued Pre 64 M70 7MM carbine out last night and dropped a doe. It was to dark for any pictures. Maybe tomorrow with a reduced load for my 375 H&H, another Pre64.
Awesome pictures Gunner. Congrats on a great hunt buddy.
Thanks Beretzs, I appreciate the votes of confidence from yourself and BSA on using these bullets.
Nice Elk too, that SS-II looks good.
Pre-64’s and BBCs belong together!
BTW, that Swift crushed that bull elks shoulder, nicely done ;]
I’m a BIG fan of those Swift Sciroccos Gunner. In my opinion they are damned near a modern day Bitterroot. They are some serious BG Bullets and just hammer the 4-5 Elk we’ve used them on. 270-338 and the results have been the same.
Damn, looks nice, guess the .51 BC would stretch to 600 just fine, may run it heads up with the 160 AB and see whick one pans out the best.
THANKS!
Oh yeah. Both are awesome Bullets. Bob and I kinda went back and forth some on the Swift’s. He hadn’t shot any BG with them so a couple of us tried them out that fall (and this year) and I’ve been very impressed with them. They do expand pretty flat and wide so they aren’t going to exit on shots all of the time but to me it’s been a no brainer since animals haven’t really gone anywhere to speak of.
The 338 recovered above was very impressive to me after digging through the wound channel a little. Crushed the on side leg and was tucked in the hide on the far side. Slapped that bull down and I didn’t have enough time to take a second shot when he popped up and rolled down the hill.
10-4, wish they made a 160 in 7mm, it would be a contender for my Mashburn build.
Gunner I use the 160gr Speer Grand Slam in a 7X57 AI. It works like the hammer of Thor. Took a lot of big stuff in Africa with it including a cull Giraffe. I wouldn't hesitate to take it elk hunting.

Thanks GSP, I still have a few of the old style 175 SGS's I shoot on my '09 DWM 7x57mm, it's a hell of a bullet as is I'm guessing the 160 you speak of, gonna spin turrets out to 6/700 yards for hunting with my Mashburn, I'm leaning hard towards the 160 gr Accubonds for all game, really like the b.c. for a standard hunting bullet.
I have some of the 160 AB for a custom built 275 Rigby (just to be different you know) but haven't loaded any yet. I have used the 140's with great success out of a rifle I had built in 7MM-08 on a Ruger #1 action and in my M70 7MM carbine....yes it's a pre64
Pretty hard to beat any of the good Bullets out there from 154-180 grains in the Mashburn. It quickly climbed to the top as one of my favorite cartridges. Thinking I’ll be working the 175 PT and BBC for this fall.
Another Winchester kill, youth modern gun is today and tomorrow. There were several doe in the clear cut at twilight when we arrived this morning. We were there less than 10 minutes when this guy showed up.
Classic FWT .270 running 130 Accubond/RL-22. Double lung hit right at 200 yards. He mule kicked and made it 50 back into the timber.
Buck was standing here when he met Mr Nosler. The box stand on the hill in the background.
Feb 2017 feral Duroc sow . Weight estimated at 600 pounds by landowner. It dwarfed other hogs taken (250-300 pounders) . Shot off hand at 50 yards with pre 64 M70 featherweight .308 - one shot and down. Still eating the breakfast sausage.
Sorry, but forgot to take picture of rifle, you all know what an old M70 looks like anyhow.

Bit late to this party (never shot a deer this past fall) but I was invited a few weeks ago to Texas by my good friend and former Ops Officer. I went and had a real good time, used my favorite 270 WIN, M70FW to shoot a small 50 lb pig the last night I was there. The 270 has a Douglas barrel and has always been an accurate rifle; I was pleased with my scope as well. A 70 yard shot into the woods at 8:15 pm, black to my eyesight - however I could actually see the spot for the pigs heart in through that Leupold. My first time to kill a pig or to hunt in Texas.
