My home made Fiberclass
[Linked Image]

I've got medium Leupold rings hanging onto this Zeiss. You can slide a piece of paper under the bell, but not much else. I have the same scope you just bought on a different rifle, it measures just a bit bigger(.060") at the AO ring than my Conquest. It'd be a toss up whether or not the medium Leupolds would work.

Nice looking rig muleshoe. I'm not sure what the rings are that came on mine.

Very, nice. You'll like it. You got a great deal on that. Where'd you find her at?

Yep it looks like the Fiberclass i bought in 1985 from Leslie Edelman Sporting goods for around 600 bucks I believe. Best shooting 30-06 I ever bought or have had in my hands. In a serious mental misfire sold the thing.

Is it very difficult to adjust the trigger on these? It breaks at 3.5 pounds, I prefer 2.5 when I can get it. Just haven't pulled it apart yet to look in there.

Trigger is easy to adjust.

That's the problem for me; finding a good place to shoot. Island Lake in Novi is okay; but going to the range can be a pain. I generally just head back up to Mount Pleasant and shoot where I grew up. The problem is a lack of a real good set up. I saw this rifle 1 month ago and though it fealt nice then. Then Saturday I saw it again, did some math, and it was basically over Sunday morning. I'm not sure why the rifle didn't move; I can only guess that with hunting season over and X-mas, people weren't lookin to spend. Need some suggestions on the mounts; I really don't like the scope so high. Thanks for the info on the stock.

Kip--Sorry, got interrupted by the big brown truck's arrival and a new press and powder funnels. Island Lake is run like a boot camp. When we go to Monroe there is usually not a ton of guys after noon time. No DNR, just private members. I like it there, plus the range is 200yds., not 100. Usually we hit Pete's Garage for a few beverages on the way home, it's tradition........Let me know if you ever want to go. Looks like Montana Man has Buehler rings/bases on his rifles, I'd definitely go with something lower than your current set-up......2MG

I'd like to take you up on your offer sometime; I'd likely learn some things. Thanks again for the help.

2MG,

Yep, you are right....those are Buehlers.

Currently use Conetrols since Buehlers are no longer available.

Actually like Conetrols better.....they are about as low as it gets.

Would I have any trouble using their lowest with this AO 40mm Leup?

Kip,

Not positive.....I have a regular 40mm on a Win and I believe I used mediums.

Don't know how much bigger the OD of the adjustable objective is than standard.

Conetrol rings are lower than just about any other type so no matter if you use their highs, they'll still be low.

I suggest you call Conetrol and talk to George Miller, tell him the gun and scope you have and he'll tell you which height rings to use.

Conetrol Scope Mounts

If you decide to use the Conetrols, I suggest that you ask for an "Extension" front base as it gives more latitude in ring placement.

Thanks for the info. Got the trigger adjusted down to just a touch over 2 pounds now. Feels much better.

FWIW, this is my 4.5-14x40 atop a model 70. The low Leupies leave enough room to see daylight, but a piece-o-paper will get stuck in there. It's really too low for comfort, I've got a set of Signature rings that will lift it up about 1/8" that I'm going to stick on it someday.

You really got a bargain there, I'm jealous.
