Anyone been playing around with this round lately? I am particularly interested in 150 grain plus loads. Ideally I would love to get a screaming accurate load with a 160 accubond or 168 lr accubond. My rifle is a 24" barrel - thinking 3000 with the 160 should be safely attainable? Reloader 26 maybe?

Not really playing with it, but certainly using a proven load.

On another thread Mule Deer found a good load with 150s and 64 grains R-26. I hope to shoot that load today in mine. I-7828 has been very good in mine with 150's.

I get great accuracy with 63 gr's of N165, albeit with 140's. 63 gr's is Nosler's suggested load for 150's. Have not worked on 150 or 160's yet.

Though I prefer 150's I really have not had any need for them yet.

Nosler's hottest 280 AI load w/a 160 gets 3045 with a 26" bbl. Depending on your bbl and altitude you might get 3000 with 24".

140 TSX will kill anything in the lower 48, @3100 with 56 gr Hybrid 100V in 26" bbl.

How does altitude affect muzzle velocity?

I still have about 30 rounds loaded with 175 gr partitions to shoot up, they run about 2860 fps with RL-22, I bought a pile of 160 gr accubond seconds awhile back, I worked up a load to 3051 fps with H-4831 SC with the 160 AB's and went to the bags, three went into iirc .773" at 100 yards, all 200+ sticks of my Nosler 280 AI brass will be annealed and trimmed to length then reloaded with that load.

Can't imagine what that wouldn't work on here in conus out to 400 long yards in my Kimber Montana, the bullets really flew well and cracked centers HARD on my 3 and 4 hundred yard gongs.

Keep it simple and start with R26 you will probably stop there as well. Sometimes I get a bug to try as many combo's as possible but mostly I like it when the first tests pan out and I stop there. Others to try are VV165, R22, 7828 and others in that burn range. But I bet you won't need to. I think the verdict is still out on the LRAB at short range but probably could get the 160 AB to shoot close enough to interchange them. Depends on how much I hunt this year if I get around to testing them but probably will do it with the 6.5x55 and 129 LRAB combo and if they are a tad soft might be good for hunting in heavy brush where DRT trumps a little blood shot meat any day.
