Interested in everyone's thoughts. Leaning toward 3-15 44mm Firedot for a new 6.5 Creedmoor hunting rig.

I have a VX6 1-6 with the firedot.

probably about as close as you can get to the current VX5 series.

firedot is great if you like leupolds duplex (pretty good IMO), and the dot can be lowered down pretty stinking dim. the bottom 2 or 3 settings aren't visible during the day and aren't overpowering at night.

Leupolds don't have the most reliable adjustments, for those that think they need to dial in elevation for every 5 yards of distance over 100 thats a problem. If you are like me, you run the numbers and sight in 2-3" high at 100, you are dang near dead on at 200, and depending on the load usually 5" low somewhere between 250-350. Which is way more than my normal shooting range. "But what about that monster trophy buck that walks out of the treeline across the valley at 500 yards?" I'm lucky to be able to see 100 in most of my hunting spots. if there is a monster deer at 500 yards, I'd have to shoot through 350 yards of Juniper to hit him.

Some also have complained about Leupolds breaking, warranties are great (Leupolds is the best) but nothing can get you back in the field looking at that animal again. Warranties don't cover replacement hunts. I've owned a truckload of Leupolds, I've never had problems sighting them in, and never had one break, but my climate is probably more moderate than most on here.

for the money I don't think you can beat any of the higher end Leupolds (VX3 and up) for a hunting scope. They aren't perfect, but they have great glass, light weight, don't cost a ton, and have great warranty support if anything does go wrong. that 2-10x42 is a great package, most of my hunting scopes are right in that power range as well:

1-6x--------Leupold VX6
1.5-5x-----Zeiss Duralyt
1.8-8x-----Vortex Razor HD
2-10x------Vortex Razor HD
2-8x--------Zeiss Duralyt
2.5-8x-----Leupold VX3
3.5-10x---Leupold VX3
3-10x-----Nightforce SHV

building 2 rifles with Leupold FX3 6x42 fixed power scopes as well.

Thank you Mjduct.
I don´t like shooting beyond 300 meters myself. I think 2-10X cover most of the real hunting distances, at least here in Argentina. If the animal is farther away, the idea is to get closer, after all that is what hunting is about, isn't it?

I just had to turn the windage on my Leupold VX6 1-6 yesterday, the clicks were so mushy you could barely feel them., a 1000 scope.
