Thanks again.

I was able to find some h1000 local, powder is still hit or miss around here. Got some starting loads ready to roll. Hope to shoot sometime this week.

It did noticeably better with the h1000 at starting load of 70gr, haven't measure but looks to be just a hair over an inch group. That was with coal at 3.2. I'm gonna try it at 3.170 and see what happens.

Own two .257Wby rifles. A NULA and an old German Mark V deluxe.

My go to load for both rifles is 75gr RL25 with a 100gr TTSX.

I’ve killed quite a bit of game using the 117gr Sierra GK out of both rifles, but decided that a premium bullet was likely a better option.

as many here have I too have been reloading and shooting a 257 W. MAG for over 25 years I had all custom made rifles built by barrel machinist who built guns for 1000yd bench national champions. 1st one was a Remington 700 custom,2nd was a Winchester pre 64 " a much better bolt action" last 2 are Ruger no.1`s ,bonx 27 inch barrel and they are both race horses with nite force scopes. I shoot a 100 gr. swift a-frame bullet at 4,000 fps ,checked for velocity with my ohler conograph, I use reloader 22, 73 grains of powder. those 2 ruger no1`s both shoot sub minute all day long too. the machinist who built the ruger no1`s for me was in Ogilvie,Mn., his name is Greg Walhstrom phone # 320-272-4897 straight-line-machinist .this machinist has built 1000 yd. National rifles that have won this title too, plus many state title guns too. you would have a hard time finding a better Machinist to do a barrel replacement and yes he still builds a lot of custom bench guns too ! he has even built guns as big as a 408 chetec down to a 22 hornet. > but back to the 257W.MAG this is still my all time favorite go to gun for deer ! good luck to all this fall,Pete53

We'll, got to the range again today with some new loads. Did better. Buddy gave me some 100gr ttsx which showed some promise, 1.1in at 100 with close to a starting load of h1000 with oal of 3.170. I can live with that.

However, I had 3 left of my initial 110 accubond loads of h4831sc that I had initially seated to the nosler testing depth of 3.209 and seated them to 3.170 to see what would happen. Went from 1.5in groups to this....

I load 64 grains of IMR 4350 in mine. I need to try some Reloader 22. It works well in my 270 Wby.

I recently chronographed my H1000 load that is new to me this year. I am using 75.5 grains of H1000 (Barnes #4) under 100 gr TTSX with Fed GM 215 M primers and got an average MV of 3600 fps out of my 26" barrel.

40 + years of loading , 4 257 bee's of mine , custom and mark5, 9 customers , all shoot the same load , 120 partitions , 67gr 7828, 215m primers, best I've ever found , shot elk ,deer, antelope, audad, oryx, ibex, and lots of African game , only change is seating depth , some customs don't have the "freebore" , back them off to avoid pressure. Start your loading at 64.5 and work up slow! Good luck ,the 120 partition I sent the best I've found , less damage to meat , penetrates and expands
