Nature called after hunting on Saturday morning , so after I hiked back to the Polaris I stepped just off the trail, unfastened my belt, unbuttoned my britches, and looked for a spot at which to aim. The spot was already occupied. In fairness, I was only about 3 feet away and he was pretty calm about it, for a moccasin. Maybe the slightly cooler morning temperatures still had him a bit sluggish and not his usual ornery self. Got to love those early season hunts in the south......

On the plus side, it was a fun morning overall. I forgot that squirrel season was open in the wildlife refuge that surrounds the tract we were hunting, so we had several shotgunners hunting around us, but we did have a herd of these little buggers come right up to our ground blind. They were oblivious to us. My daughter plugged one when they got out to 50 or 60 yards from us. We went back last night to a spot several miles away and it was hogs again, making enough racket to spook every deer in the parish. They are really plentiful in north Louisiana this year, along with mosquitoes and snakes, apparently.....

Maybe he was scared of the other snake.

Good thing you didn't squat down, if he'd have hit you on the ass it would've been tough to find someone willing to make an incision and suck the venom out.....

I can think of an area to get bit that would have earned you bragging rights in deer camp until the swelling went down.

Thanks, and yeah, she is not that much shorter than me these days.... We were actually on a little tract that's kind of an island in the refuge, down at the end of the Hooker Hole Road, past Finch Lake. The refuge borders it on 3 sides and the river borders it at the rear. But our property on Pace Brown is wrapped up in hogs too. They're abundant at the moment. Nearly ever hunter I talk to in Union is saying so.
