I've loaded the 62gr Barnes TSX bullets in my 16" 1:9 twist AR-15. I've loaded from 24.5 - 26gr of TAC.
CAUTION: 24.5gr is listed as max for 223, 27.0 is listesd as max per NATO pressure limits per Barnes. Carefully work up any loads that exceed 223 pressures to ensure safe in your rifle. Verify any loads before making any assumptions about them being safe in your rifle.
My velocities were:
24.5gr TAC, 2751 fps 1042 ft-lbs
25.0gr TAC, 2794 fps 1075 ft-lbs
25.5gr TAC, 2803 fps 1082 ft-lbs
26.0gr TAC, 2892 fps 1152 ft-lbs
End the end, I decided I liked the 70gr Speer Semi-Soft Point for heavier game hunting. Less than 1/2 the price, easier to load and have a reputation for working very well.

The first .5 grain increase gave you 43 fps more velocity. The next .5 gr. increase gave only 9 fps velocity increase. Then another .5 gr. and you realized an 89 fps increase in velocity.

They were only 5 shot groups.. I suspect if larger samples, say 10+, the data would have evened out more (approx 35 fps per 0.5 gr increase in powder). I don't measure every charge, I use a RCBS Uniflow powder measure, but TAC generally meters really well.

I'm running about the same load in a 21" PN 1-8"SS 223AI barreled M700, although I think I'm a few tenths higher and running moly. My speeds were 3,325-3,350, although I did go up as high as 3,400 when working up the load. Non-tipped version also.
Now with even more aplomb

I've killed a truck load of hogs with the 62 Gr TSX out of my heavy barrel .556 AR-15. Works great on deer too. It has become my favorite .223 bullet for hunting at the Ranch.

I'll have to go dig up my load data since I've switched to the 55gr TTSX which performs just as well on deer and hogs. Ed

Yea, the 55 makes sense, it appears the 62 will cramp powder space a bit & I think I will need to push them hard to stabilize well in the 1-9 but I found a great buy at a place that has a bunch in stock, we shall see. It appears Benchmark can get good velocity with a lttle less powder than some.

I shoot them in my Rock River Varmint. I use Varget. It kills hogs, no problem. Here’s two I killed two weeks ago. The larger one went 245 ![[Linked Image]](http://a64.tinypic.com/2h3o1w2.jpg)

Just in time thread. I just started loading these last night for my 5.56 chambered RRA so am using the hotter data. I plan on trying TAC, X-Terminator and Varget. Barnes list Varget as the best for accuracy.

I went with Benchmark, it was listed as the most accurate powder in my Nosler manual while also being the 2nd fastest and the fastest (CFE 223) was only 16fps faster, but the main reason I chose Bencmark is it gets that velocity with less grains of powder which gives me more room to seat that long bullet. It appears from my load it works great.

Old thread, anyone loaded these lately in a 223/5.56, I need to work up a load for my Grand daughter, 22" bolt gun, 1-9 twuist, thanks I shoot the TSX in my very picky Ruger M77 Compact, 16.5in barrel, 1-9 twist. 26.5gr Varget, CCI 450, Norma brass, .050 off, gives me 2800fps and 5/8 inch groups.
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.
