Rut appears over, not much "fresh" sign of elk in the area I'm hunting or any sign as the case may be? I walked in at 0802 hours this morning to see a "huge" cow elk cross the game trail in front of me at 40 yards and disappear in 3 seconds flat or sooner. This is a first year hunt for elk for me. If I hunt the rest of this week do you think that she will be back or is it game over? She was at a slow trot when I saw her and didn't seem to "high tail" it out of there. Should I have followed her or went around her a 1/2 mile and tried to cut her off? Not sure what my next move is? I ended up still hunting down to where she crossed the trail and went up the ridge and sat hoping another elk or that she would be back?
