1985 specimen in nearly mint condition. Probably paid too much.

Ported shroud, non-ported barrel. Oh well. The sleeve isn't original to the box either. Probably paid too much but hell, can't take it with you when the lord calls ya home!

This will match up nicely with my Ruger 44 Carbine (copper bullets in both) when I'm hunting the back country of Montana just SW of Glacier.
I feel secure! smile

I like matching pistol to rifle--My DW in 357 Max goes with my savage 24V
I had a ported barrel/shroug 44mag--it had never been cleaned and the shroud was welded on from all the old powder and lead residue---took forever to get it apart

This was has an unported barrel and "vented" shroud. The design may have been with intentions of reducing recoil but I believe Wesson learned that lesson about fouling of the shroud internally due to the nature of the porting holes not lining up with venting holes with a screwed on barrel and concentric porting ...so they started delivering with unported barrels. That's what I've heard from a reliable source on the subject.
Yeah, the "V" for the 44V is just that, ventilation for cooling. wink

Very nice set.

How harsh is the 2.5" barrel with .44 Magnums, Fotis?

I always drooled over those Dan Wesson revolvers when I was younger, may have to scratch that itch.

Not too bad. A lot of weight as you know. Plus it is not ported

Yep. When I'm walking the woods southwest of Glacier, MT in Griz country, if I run outta bullets while being chased by a bear, I can use it as a club. smile

Hey Fotis, I was in Cheyenne for the Eclipse.

Here is my short timelapse video.

Nice find. I just picked up a Dan Wesson 357, four barrel set. I'm anxious to get home from this hitch and get to the range with it. Congrats on a nice gun.

I have one bought in 1982 that has a ported shroud and a ported and a non ported barrel, Dan Wesson 6-inch 44 Mag. I only shoot the non ported barrel because the ported barrel lets copper products from the bullet jackets into the open area in the barrel shroud and it attaches to the barrel at the corners of the shroud junction. After a full range shoot you have to go to extreme measures to get the shroud and barrel separated due to copper build up. I shot them back to back and could not tell the difference in recoil. I have not shot the ported barrel since my second copper fusing with the shroud back in 1982. You are not missing anything without the ported barrel.

That looks just like mine except I swapped the original grips for some DW zebra wood grips. It was my first handgun, to be followed by a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup 45 ACP.

When I had the copper fouling it meant that when you took the barrel nut off, the shroud would not come off and the threads on the cylinder end of the barrel could not be turned . I had to get a wood dowel into the barrel shroud port and hammer away until I sheared the copper build up inside the cylindrical chamber between the edge of the shroud and the barrel.

I have basicly the same thing in 41. I always wanted a 41 but the DW was new in box so I have left it that way...

I had one in stainless back in 1987. IIRC it came in a plastic case with the tool and two barrels, both six inchers, one ported and one not, both with vent ribs. It seems like it had both rubber and wooden grips. It was one of the biggest handguns I've ever owned along with a 1917 Colt.
